EDWARD HYATT (Republican) was born at Huntington, Pennsylvania, March 8, 1858, 
but was educated in the public school of Ohio and at the Ohio State University; 
he took up school teaching as his occupation, came to California in 1884, and 
settled in Riverside County, where beginning with 1895 he served several terms 
as County Superintendent of Schools, and also acted as Instructor for Teachers' 
County Institutes throughout the State; elected Superintendent of Public 
Instruction November 6, 1906, as the nominee of the Republican party and 
Independence League; reelected in 1910, as a Republican.
