Governor.
HIRAM WARREN JOHNSON (Republican) was born at Sacramento, Sacramento County, 
California, September 2, 1866. He attended the public schools and was graduated 
from the Sacramento High School in 1884. He entered the University of California 
with the class of 1888, but left in his Junior year to engage in the study of 
law. He was admitted to practice in 1888 and practiced his profession thereafter 
in Sacramento until 1902. In 1899 he was appointed Corporation Counsel of the 
city of Sacramento by Mayor George H. Clark, and served in that capacity 
throughout Clark's administration. In 1902 he took up his residence in San 
Francisco, and in partnership with his brother, Albert M. Johnson, opened a law 
office in that city. He was nominated for the office of Governor in August, 
1910, at the first direct primary election held in the State of California, and 
elected to that office November 8, 1910; inaugurated January 3, 1911.
