STATE BOARD OF EQUALIZATION 
JOHN MITCHELL (Republican) was born at St. Andrews, Canada, January 1, 1863, and 
was elected in the public schools of New Hampshire, and in Chester Academy, in 
the same State; he came to California and located in San Francisco, but later 
removed to Oakland, Alameda County, where he has since resided; in November, 
1896, he was elected member of the Board of Supervisors of Alameda County, 
reelected to the same office in 1900, and again elected in 1904, serving eight 
years as chairman of that board; in November, 1910, he was elected member of the 
State Board of Equalization for the Second District.
