R.
G. FREY, M. D.
Dr. R. G. Frey, engaged in the practice of medicine and surgery in
Red Bluff, came to California from the Hoosier state. Born in Pendleton,
Indiana, August 23, 1895, he is a son of Elias and Rosa Alice (Gregory) Frey.
His father engaged in farming and was also identified with the postal service,
becoming president of the National Rural Letter Carriers Association.
Dr. Frey was a pupil in the common schools of his home locality and the high
school at Pendleton, Indiana, and was next a student in Indiana University. In
1917, soon after the United States entered the World war, he enlisted in the
medical corps and was assigned to duty with the Three Hundred and Fortieth
Regiment of Field Artillery, attached to the Eighty-ninth Division. He was sent
to Fort Riley, Kansas, where he remained until mustered out of the service, and
in 1919 he matriculated in the University of California, where he pursued a
classical course, winning the A. B. degree. Afterward he was a student in the
medical department of that university and was graduated as a member of the
class of 1925. For two years he was identified with the Woodland Clinic,
gaining valuable experience in that connection, and then came to Red Bluff as a
partner of Dr. Doane, a pioneer physician of the town. They now have the best
equipped office here and enjoy a large practice. In diagnosis Dr. Frey is
thorough and painstaking, and sound judgment and keen discernment direct the
utilization of his scientific knowledge.
On the 21st of August, 1929, Dr. Frey was united in marriage to
Miss Elspeth Jones, who figures prominently in the social life of the
community. Although his medical work makes heavy demands upon his energies, the
Doctor has found time for activity in civic affairs and his support can always
be counted upon in the furtherance of projects for the general good. He is a
York Rite Mason, identified with the various bodies of the order at Red Bluff,
and also Ben Ali Temple of the Mystic Shrine at Sacramento. He has membership
in the American Legion, the Rotary Club, the Tehama County Medical Society and
the American Medical Association. Studious by nature, he utilizes every
opportunity to perfect himself in his chosen field of endeavor and keeps in
close touch with the progress that is constantly being made in the profession.
