PAUL
DOUGLAS HENDERSON
Paul Douglas Henderson, county superintendent of schools of Tehama
county, was born near Red Bluff, his parents being John H., and Mary A.
Henderson. The father was a farmer by occupation and his military record
covered service with the Confederate Army from Tennessee. He died July 28,
1921, and for about eight years was survived by his wife, who passed away May
11, 1929.
After attending the public schools of Red Bluff, Paul D. Henderson
was graduated from the Chico State Teachers College and is the holder of the
California Elementary School life diploma, a life diploma in the school
administration and junior high school credentials. Since 1897, or for a period
of thirty-three years, he has devoted his attention to educational work in
connection with the California schools. For eleven years he served on the
county board of education in Modoc county and for about eight years on the
county board of Tehama county. His teaching experience covers two years in
Lassen county, thirteen years in Modoc, one year in Alameda and seventeen years
in Tehama county, including the office of county superintendent. In this
position he was appointed to succeed Mamie B. Long, who resigned, and he filled
out a year and a half of her term, after which he was elected without
opposition in the fall of 1926. He is making an excellent record as supervisor
of the educational system of the county and in all that he does he is actuated
by a most progressive spirit that finds expression in practical effort for the
adoption of modern principles and ideals. At present he is head of the Gerber
grammar school, in which his wife is also a teacher. He is a baseball
enthusiast and is instructing a girls' as well as a boys' team in his school.
On the 30th of December, 1905, in Alturas, California, Mr.
Henderson was married to Miss Maude Cannon, a daughter of Ira S. and Sarah N.
Cannon, and they have one child, Adin Douglas Henderson, who is now a teacher
in Sacramento, holding the office of school principal when but twenty-three
years of age.
Mr. Henderson belongs to Adin Lodge, No. 250, F. & A. M., of
Adin, California, of which he is past master; Acacia Chapter, No. 64, R. A, M.,
of which he is past high priest, and the Scottish Rite bodies of Sacramento,
including the Consistory. He also has membership in the Presbyterian Church and
is interested in all that pertains to the social, cultural and moral progress
of his community. All who know him esteem him as a one hundred per cent
American and bear testimony to his splendid qualities as a man and a citizen.
