*NOTE: This company was originally organized at Camp Merchant during the month of August, 1861, by a man named O’Regan. O’Regan was never mustered as Captain of it, however, William McCleave having been its first commander. The company so organized was mustered out of service as an organization as Las Cruces, New Mexico, August 31, 1864, and an entirely new company was organized in February, 1865, under Captain E.C. Ledyard, most of the men having enlisted in Oroville. In this register of the company all those who served prior to August 31, 1864, were in the original company; all after that date were in the new Company A.
