Tuesday, January 1

Weather very pleasant. I was at Home all day. Jerry took Dinner with us. We have not got the Market house job settled as yet. It is still laying as it fell. We are all well.

 

Wednesday, January 2

Weather pleasant but the streets keep very mudy. We sat the Collems in the Fuller’s Houses this afternoon. Evening we met the Market House Company & had the affair fixed up. We have to lose 500$. We compromised it. We are all well.

 

Thursday, January 3

Very foggy in the morning but the afternoon of the day was very pleasant. We worked all day on Fuller’s. We commence on the second story tomorrow morning. We sat two men to cleaning brick at the Market. We are all well.

 

Friday, January 4

Weather continues very bad. We commenced to work this morning but had to stop work about ½  past 8. I dug a little sewer across the sidewalk into the yard between my two houses on 5th to let the water off.

 

Saturday, January 5

Weather continues very bad. We done nothing all day. I worked a little about Home. The streets is in a very bad condition on act. of the rains. Sallie & the baby is very well.

 

Sunday, January 6

The weather continues damp. The streets & roads are in a very bad condition. Sallie went to church with me this morning. After church we called to see Mrs. Sherman found them all well.

 

Monday, January 7

Today has been pleasant but everything is so wet we could not do anything. It rained quite hard last night. Mr. Moxley & I went out to see his Lot. I made him an offer but he did not take me up.

 

Tuesday, January 8

The weather has been very pleasant all day. We went to work at 9 on Mr. Fuller’s Stores. Evening I went to hear the Rev. Star King, Subject Substance & Show. I was very much pleased with him.

 

Wednesday, January 9

Weather pleasant. I worked all day on the Fuller’s stores. Men are at work on the Market House getting it ready to commence laying Brick again in a few days. We are all well.

 

Thursday, January 10

Weather continues pleasant. We worked untill 3 we ran out of Brick. The roads is so bad that Shannon cant keep us going. The baby was quite sick today we think it got a fly in its throat and made it sick.

 

Friday, January 11

Weather continues pleasant. We worked all day. We will soon have the Fuller job finished that long wet spell kept us back. The child is much better today. Sallie is complaining of not being well.

 

Saturday, January 12

Weather has not been quite so pleasant. Part of today has been quite foggy. One of the front corner arches of Fuller’s fell out on the second story while I was pointing it up. It frightened us all very much.  We are all well,

 

Sunday, January 13

Weather clear & cool & quite windy. We spent most of the day at Mrs. Sherman’s. Evening Sallie & I went to the M. E. Church. Left the Baby with Mrs. S.

 

Monday, January 14

Weather pleasant. We worked all day on Fuller’s job toping out. We have to brace the walls on act. of them being put up while the brick was so wet. We are all quite well except Sallie she complains a little.

 

Tuesday, January 15

Today has been very windy. We toped out Mr. Fuller’s stores on second st. at noon. The wind blew so hard while we was at work that we was afraid the Building would fall down. I got a letter from Bro. James. We are all well.

 

Wednesday, January 16

The Wind has not blown quite so hard today but it was quite cool. I put Fuller’s Pavement down today. Mr. F Paid us in full as soon as we was done. Emaly Hapgood came down this eve. We are all well.

 

Thursday, January 17

Weather quite cool in the morning. We built a wall under Mr. John H. Wright’s porch & done a little job for Mr. Barnes was all the work we done today. We intended to start the Market but it was not ready. We are all well.

 

Friday, January 18

Part of today was quite pleasant. We commenced to rebuild the Market that fell down. The walls are pretty much all down to the first floor excepting the wall next to the Odd Fellows Hall & N. E. Corner. We are all well.

 

Saturday, January 19

Cloudy & misty all day so We could not work. Miss Molly Walton came down from Hansonville this afternoon. She is stopping with us while in Mville. We are all well.

 

Sunday, January 20

Cloudy but no rain. I went to our church in the morning. Mr. Lee & Mr. Williams called in the afternoon. We are all well.

 

Monday, January 21

Weather pleasant but quite cool in the morning going to work. We worked all day on the Market House. At Home all the evening. Mrs. Hapgood called in the evening. We are all very well.

 

 

Tuesday, January 22

Weather pleasant we had quite a heavy frost last night & it froze a little this morning the mortar was froze a little this morning. We are getting along quite well with the Market. We are all well.

 

Wednesday, January 23

Weather continues about the same. All to work on the Market House. We are well.

 

Thursday, January 24

Weather continues about the same. We are still on the Market House. Evening Miss Walton, Sallie called to see the Miss Greens in their new house on 3rd St. We are all well.

 

Friday, January 25

Weather was quite warm part of today. We are still on the Market. I went to the fire company this evening. We ellected John Lowery First Assistant. We are all well.

 

Saturday, January 26

Weather continues very pleasant part of today was quite warm. We finished up the first story of the Market House at Noon today. The Choir of out Church met at our House this eve to rehearse. We are all well.

 

Sunday, January 27

Weather quite pleasant in the morning. Sallie & I went to Church evening. I went a lone in the afternoon. Miss Molly Walton, Dorsey, Sallie, Baby & I went down to see the new bridge across Feather River. We had a very pleasant walk.

 

Monday, January 28

Weather pleasant. We worked all day on the Market. I feel very ancious to get it done. We are all well.

 

Tuesday, January 29

Weather continues about the same. We are still nocking away at the Market House. Mr. Hudson & I had quite a talk about the $240 I paid him 27th Sept. last. He has forgot all about it. I have lost the receipt.

 

Wednesday, January 30

Weather continues favourable. We are still at the Market. We are working on the fire wall now. It is only going to be a one story building now. We are all well. I promised Mr. Blair to give him $25 in a Month or so.

 

Thursday, January 31

Weather pleasant. We are on the Market yet. We put the cornice on the front today. Sallie is out this evening at Mr. Sherman’s. We are all well.

 

Friday, February 1

Weather pleasant. We are still working on the Market House. We are all well.

 

Saturday, February 2

Weather continues very pleasant. We are still at the Market. Evening I went to the sing at Mr. Cook’s. We are all well.

 

Sunday, February 3

Weather continues pleasant. Sallie went with me to church in the forenoon. At night Miss Walton &  Dorsey went to Church with Sallie. I stayed at Home with the Baby & wrote to Bro. Jacob.

 

Monday, February 4

Weather continues very pleasant. We are still at the Market House. We want to try and get done this week. At Home in the evening. We are all well. The Baby is a little sick at times she is teathing.

 

Tuesday, February 5

Weather continues very pleasant. I commenced to move a Window frame for Dr. Winter in the Odd Fellows Hall. Josiah at the Market house & Dorsey is with him. Evening I went to the Lodge. We are all well.

 

Wednesday, February 6

Weather pleasant but quite warm in the middle of the day. I finished Dr. Winter’s job & commenced a little job for Mr.Brophey on D. St where he lives front foundation wall for an iron fence. We are all well.

 

Thursday, February 7

Weather quite pleasant in the morning. I finished Brophey’s & a job at the jailor’s House & layed a foundation for a curb at Mr. Nash & George. We are all well.

 

Friday, February 8

Weather pleasant. We worked at the Market House all day. We are having a good deal of trouble about setting up with the Odd Fellows Hall. We are all well except the Baby she is a little sick.

 

Saturday, February 9

It commenced to rain this morning about 10 so we had to stop work at 11. Afternoon Dorsey & I planted out Locust on the corner of 5th & F streets. We planted out 15. They cost me 62½ a piece. We had the sing at our house this evening.

 

Sunday, February 10

Cloudy wet. In the morning I went to our Church. Did not go in the evening. The child has been quite sick all day with a cold. Sallie did not go out all day.

 

Monday, February 11

Raining all day so we could not work. The child is about the same. The balance of us is all well.

 

Tuesday, February 12

Wet this morning. We went to work in the afternoon on the Market house. Mr. Chittenden called to see us this evening is looking quite well. The baby is better this evening.

 

Wednesday, February 13

Weather quite pleasant today. We finished all the work at the Market House excepting the pavement. We settled with the Hall Building Association after a good deal of talk did nothing 175$. We are glad to get a settlement with them. We are all well.

 

Thursday, February 14

Weather pleasant. We did not do much today. We built an ary & a foundation wall for the curb at the Market. We are getting pretty well through with our work. We are all well.

 

Friday, February 15

Weather pleasant. We done a job for Mr. J. H. Wright & John Lowery yesterday instead of working at the Market. We done a job for Mr. Eaton at the Graveyard. We got $1500 on the Market House old bldg. We are all well except the baby.

 

Saturday, February 16

Weather pleasant. We put down the sidewalk at the Market House that being the last work to do there. We also pointed up the arches on the Fuller’s 2 stores on 2nd St. We are now about through with all the work we have to do.

 

Sunday, February 17

We. Pleasant but a little Cloudy. I went to Church in the morning but did not go in the evening. We are all well. Mr. Walton spent part of the day with us. He is a Bro. to Miss Walton that is stoping with us.

 

Monday, February 18

Weather pleasant. Josiah & I have been settling up all day. We settled with Mr. Gwynn & Mr. Santry. It left Gwynn in our debt. We are all well.

 

Tuesday, February 19

Weather pleasant. I am working for myself now. In the afternoon Dorsey & I commenced a job for Lee in the Odd Fellows Building. Evening I went to the Lodge. We had quite a lively time. After the Lodge about Dedicating the new Hall settled on April 26 next.

 

Wednesday, February 20

Weather pleasant. Dorsey & I finished Lee’s job & then done a job for Mr. Bockious on D. St. We are now about out of Brick. I have bought a new yard back of the Hospittle 160X520 for $200. We are all well except the Baby she is not very well.

 

Thursday, February 21

Rained this afternoon. We done a job for the Water Co. & a little job at the Engine House and that made out the day. We are all well. The baby is a little fretful on account of her teeth.

 

Friday, February 22

Weather very pleasant today. I commenced to put down my front pavement. We put down the curb ourselves. We are all well.

 

Saturday, February 23

Most of today was quite wet but we worked most of the day putting down our pavement. We got it all down except peacing it up. It looks very well. We are all well.

 

Sunday, February 24

Rained part of today. Did not go out all day. I felt quite sore on act. of getting wet yesterday. I took a cold from it.

 

Monday, February 25

Weather quite unpleasant today. Josiah & I done some settling. I paid my part on Judge Bliss note $1211.50. I am afraid that I will lose it. We settled with Jacob Haun & took his note for the balance.

Forgot. But weather is pleasant. Things has moved along about the same as usual.

Weather quite warm today. I bought 100 cords of wood of J. C. Fall for $4.00 cord Delivered. I got the promise of some work for Mr. Cockrell(?) on First St. We are all well.

 

Tuesday, March 5

Weather continues quite warm part of the day. I am not doing very much now. We are all well. Evening I went to the Lodge.

 

Wednesday, March 6

Weather continues pleasant. Mr. Scholl & I walked out to Mr. McCuller’s Ranch to see some wood. We took our guns along. We are all well.

 

Thursday, March 7

Weather continues pleasant,. I was home part of today & part walking about. I had my Deed for my Lot recorded that I make Brick on. I got it very cheap for 200$.

 

Friday, March 8

Weather quite warm. Josiah & I do a job at the graveyard for Mr. Williams. I also commenced a job at the Mill repairing Boilers. ( Ransom) We are all well.

 

Saturday, March 9

Weather quite pleasant. We worked all day at the Mill. It was very dirty work. I have just rec. a letter from Bro. Jas. I must stop and read it. We are all well.

 

Sunday, March 10

Weather very pleasant. At Church morning & eve. Sallie was with me. We are all well. Afternoon Sallie, Milly, Carry Green & I & the Baby took a walk out to my new yard.

 

Monday, March 11

Weather continues very pleasant. I finished the work at the Mill on High St. at noon. Afternoon Sallie, baby & I rode out to see wood on Casey’s ranch. We had a very pleasant ride.

 

Tuesday, March 12

Weather continues about the same. I done a job for Mr. Wright and Booth. I let the digging of my Well at my Brickyard for $1 per foot. Evening I went to the Lodge. We are all well.

 

Wednesday, March 13

Weather continues very pleasant. I started Cockrell’s job on First St. I have been making a calculation this afternoon how I will get my halling done. I am thinking about buying 2 yoke of cattle. We are all well.

 

Thursday, March 14

Weather pleasant. I am not doing anything now on act. of no Lime in town. Evening I went to the Lodge. I commenced to dig my well on my yard. We are all very well.

 

Friday, March 15

Weather quite cool this morning. [--] & I rode out to the Butes this morning to see some cattle. I bought one yoke for $150. We got back at 1. I have 2 men getting the yard ready. I have 200 cords of wood ingaged. We are all well.

 

Saturday, March 16

Weather very pleasant. My Cattle was brought in today. I turned them in William’s pasture by my yard for $5 per yoke per month. Lime got in today. I have to pay 1½ cts now. We are all well.

 

Sunday, March 17

Weather very pleasant. Sallie went to Church with me morning & evening. We left the Baby at Mrs. Sherman’s we are all well.

 

Monday, March 18

Weather quite warm. We worked all day at Mr. Cockrell’s. I am building an addition to his store. I furnished mortar & labor & lay them for $7 per thousand. I got Josiah to help me. I give him $7 per day. Laborers are $4 per day.

 

Tuesday, March 19

Weather continues quite warm. We are still at the same place. I felt quite tired so I did not go to the Lodge. Bradey commenced to dig a little seller under the citchen where We are living. We are all well.

 

Wednesday, March 20

Weather continues about the same. I finished Cockrell’s job today. The boys finished my yard today [--] it off. At Home all the evening. I got a letter from Bro. James today.

 

Thursday, March 21

Not quite so warm today. I commenced a Privey for Mr. Fuller. It rained quite hard this eve. Rafe came up to Marysville this afternoon. He called to see us he is looking quite well. He is on his way to Washoe. We are all well.

 

Friday, March 22

The weather a little unpleasant cloudy & a little wet. I worked part of today. I cant do very much untill I get new Brick. I want to commence about the middle of next month. We are all well.

 

Saturday, March 23

Weather cloudy & damp. It rained most all the afternoon. I was at home most all day doing some carpenter work about the house. We are all very glad to see the rain it is very much needed.

 

Sunday, March 24

Weather cloudy but not much rain. I went to Church morning & evening. We had a very good turn out today on act. of the weather. We are all very well.

 

Monday, March 25

Weather very unpleasant rained most all day. I am having a little seller dug under the citchen where we are living & one next door under the back building. We are all well.

 

Tuesday, March 26

Weather continues wet rains very hard at times. At Home most all day. Evening I went to the Lodge. We are still in the old Lodge Room but we expect to get in the new Hall in a week or so.

 

Wednesday, March 27

It is still raining & the river is getting quite high. The water is about as high as it was in 54. A man was drown on Qunity Ranch. It has all over flowed about those Ranches. Eve went to Stock Holders meeting.

 

Thursday, March 28

It rained a little this forenoon but the balance of the day was quite pleasant. In the afternoon I commenced to build the steps leading into the seller. I was ellected one of the Trustees of the Odd Fellows Building Association last night. We are all well except the Baby is not very well.

 

Friday, March 29

Rained quite hard part of today. I built the back ary & steps to my House where we are living. We have quite a nice little seller under the citchen. Ella is quite sick with a very bad cold.

 

Saturday, March 30

The weather has been quite pleasant today. We sat up with Ella last night. Quite a number of Ladies has been in to see her today. They think she has a bad cold only. We are very much frightened about her.

 

Sunday, March 31

Weather pleasant. I went to Church morning & evening at home the remainder of the day. Ella is about the same a little better if anything. We still sat up with her.

 

Monday, April 1

Weather cloudy & wet. Ella is getting better but we still sat up with her. Miss carry Green sat up with the baby last night. I am not doing anything now.

 

Tuesday, April 2

Weather continues about the same. The child seems considerable better today. I bought a stove and put it in the bed room. We took her to bed with us tonight. I went to the Lodge tonight.

 

Wednesday, April 3

Weather continues about the same. I am still walking about not doing very much but intend getting the shantes built as soon as I can. Ella is getting a good deal better.

 

Thursday, April 4

Cloudy & wet part of the day. Dave came in to go to work today. We took down the old shante at the old Brick Yard. Our old yard is full of water. The slew is still very high about as high as I ever saw it.

 

Friday, April 5

Weather continues about the same. We worked all day at the shantes. The child is getting quite better. I expect to be quite busy as soon as I get new brick.

 

Saturday, April 6

Very foggy this morning. We will soon have the shantes built in the new yard. It got quite warm after the fog went away. The child is getting along finely. At home this eve.

 

Sunday, April 7

Weather very pleasant. I went to Church morning & evening. Sallie has not got out yet since the child was sick but is getting quite well again.

 

Monday, April 8

Weather very pleasant. We worked all day fixing up the shantes on my new yard. Dave & Dorsey is helping me. The Baby’s getting along very well. Mr. Knight sent for me to do some work at the Gass House.

 

Tuesday, April 9

Weather continues pleasant. I worked all day at the Gass House. I had to buy 2000 brick to do my job with. I get them for $9 at the kiln. I halled them with my team. We are all well.

 

Wednesday, April 10

Weather pleasant. I worked all day at the Gass House. I finished there today. I have not got my yard ready yet but want to have it ready by the last of this week. We are all well.

 

Thursday, April 11

Weather continues about the same. Dave & I took the old brick mushines out the old yard. We had quite a hard time getting them out on act. of the water in the yard. We are all very well.

 

Friday, April 12

Weather continues pleasant. We worked all day fixing up the yard. We sat the two [--]. We are all well.

 

Saturday, April 13

Weather continues pleasant. We worked all day on the yard. I will be ready to commence to mold by Tuesday. We are all very well.

 

Sunday, April 14

Weather quite warm. Went to Church morning & evening. Sallie spent the day with Mrs. Sherman. I was there part of the day. We are all well. Miss Walton went out home.

 

Monday, April 15

Weather quite warm. I worked all day at the yard. I am building the stables & one thing another. I had a Pitt filled today so we can mold tomorrow. Jas. McCail was drowned today clost by the yard trying to cross the slew on a Horse.

 

Tuesday, April 16

Weather very pleasant. We began to mold today got out about 5000. Every thing goes off very well. I will have everything fixed up very well when I get through. Evening I went to the Lodge. We are all well.

 

Wednesday, April 17

Weather pleasant but it looks a little like rain. My team is halling sand to mix with the top dirt. I worked at the yard all day. Evening Mr. Williams called to see me to do a little job. Mr. Steele called to see me. He wants me to take the contract to finish the Brickwork of the State Reform School

 

Thursday, April 18

Weather quite warm. I worked today for Mr. Williams C. G. on 5th St. corner of B St. I have to hall sand to mix with the top dirt on the yard the clay is turning out to be very good, better than I expected.

 

Friday, April 19

Cloudy and sprinkled a little rain in the evening. I was at the yard part of today fixing up the Barn & one thing another. Evening I figured up the brickwork of Johnson’s Houses to be built next to Mr. Sweezey’s on D. Street

 

Saturday, April 20

Weather cloudy but no rain. I have been quite busy about town today collecting & seeing about some work. I expect to be very busy as soon as I get new Brick. I commence to put in a front for Mr. Scholl next week.

 

Sunday, April 21

Weather pleasant. At Church in the morning but did not go in the evening. I felt quite unwell. The balance are all well.

 

Monday, April 22

Weather pleasant. I commenced to take out Mr. School’s front on D. St. next to the Theatre Building. to put an iron front in. We broke a shaft in the yard this morning so we could not mold today.

 

Tuesday, April 23

Weather pleasant. Worked all day at the Scholl’s. Evening I went to the Lodge. We are all well. This evening was the last time to meet in the old Hall. We meet in the new Hall next Tuesday night.

 

Wednesday, April 24

Weather a little cloudy & thretening rain. We worked all day at the same place. I have Pat McCarty to help me. We are all well. I wrote my proposition for Johnson’s houses on D. Street opposite my house on D. Street

 

Thursday, April 25

Weather pleasant. No rain as we expected. I am very glad of it would be very bad for making brick. We worked all day at Scholl’s. We are all very well.

 

Friday, April 26

Weather very pleasant. We Dedicated our new Hall today had a very nice time. Quite a number came up from San Francisco. Everything went off in very fine order. We are all well. Sallie went to the Sherman’s.

 

Saturday, April 27

Weather very pleasant. We worked all day got very near through with the job. We had the sing at our house this evening. We are all well.

 

Sunday, April 28

Weather pleasant. I went to Church morning & evening. We are all very well except Ella she is not so well.

 

Monday, April 29

Weather pleasant. I worked all day at Scholl’s the gun smith. I am getting along very well making brick. Every thing has gone on very well so far.

 

Tuesday, April 30

Weather pleasant. I finished at the Gun Smith’s today. We went in our new Hall this evening for the first time & initiated Judge Merrill. We are all well. I have got the Brickwork of Johnson’s 4 Houses to do. Wimple is with me on it.

 

Wednesday, May 1

Weather quite warm. Wimple & I signed the contract for the Brickwork & the excavation of Johnson’s 4 Houses to be built on D. St opposite my house. We do the brickwork & excavation for $2740 Dollars. We are all well.

 

Thursday, May 2

Weather quite warm today. I done a little job for Mr. Moore opposite the Post Office. I got Rafe to help me. He is a young man that served his time with J. B. McDonald & I. We are all well. Eve I went to the Lodge.

 

Friday, May 3

Not so warm today looked very much like rain. I worked part of today & the balance of the day I was busy tending to business. I engaged 100 cords of wood from Mr. Casey at $4.00 per cord delivered.

 

Saturday May 4

 Quite warm today. I bought 20 or 30 thousand Brick of McCormick at $6.50 to commence on untill I get new brick. I am going to build Wm. Gwynn Lime house the first thing I do. I was making Horses all day.

 

Sunday, May 5

Weather pleasant. I went to Church in the morning. Mr. & Mrs. Hapgood called to see us. We are all well.

 

Monday, May 6

Weather pleasant. I worked most of today finishing my Horses. I made 16 new ones. Dave is halling sand at Gwynn’s new lime house. I am going to commence it tomorrow. We are all well. We sat fire to our first kiln this evening.

 

Tuesday, May 7

Weather quite warm today. I started Gwynn’s House today. Rafe is helping me. It is 40 feet square and one story & basement high. I get $13 per and take it out in lime. Eve I went to the Lodge.

 

Wednesday, May 8

The weather was not quite so warm today. Dorsey & I worked allone today we got along very well. I am very busy now. The kiln is getting along very well. We are all well. There is only 6 holes in this kiln.

 

Thursday, May 9

Weather pleasant. Dorsey & I worked all day on Gwynn’s Lime House. The kiln is getting along very well. We are all very well.

 

Friday, May 10

Weather continues very pleasant. We worked all day. Evening I went to the fire Co. We are making prepperations to go to San Francisco on a visit on the 17th June. We are all well.

 

Saturday, May 11

Weather continues pleasant. Dorsey & I finished at the Seller of Gwynn’s Lime House. We built a privey for Mathews on D St. I am very busy now. I got another house to build on C. St. for Smith. We are all well.

 

Sunday, May 12

Weather very pleasant. I went to Church in the morning. The Rev. Mr. Chinney preached. We had no preaching in the evening. We got through burning the kiln this evening.

 

Monday, May 13

Weather very pleasant. We built two priveys on D. St. for Mr. Mathews. I have a little job to do for Jacob Williams on A. St. I got ready to commence in the morning. We are all well.

 

Tuesday, May 14

Weather pleasant. We worked untill about 10. We got out of mortar, lime is very scarce this spring. I have to pay 0ne cent & ¼ this summer for lime. Evening I went to the Lodge. We are all well.

 

Wednesday, May 15

Weather continues about the same. We finished the wall at the Williams today & got ready to commence on the first story of Gwynn’s Lime House. Evening I went to the Firemens meeting.

 

Thursday, May 16

Weather a little warm. We commenced on Gwynn’s this morning. I had a little job done at Mr. Williams Mill. I am halling from the new kiln today for the first time. We are all well.

 

Friday, May 17

It looked very much like rain this morning. We all worked on Gwynn’s today. We had a very bad burn in our first kiln. The wood was very bad. We are all well.

 

Saturday, May 18

Weather very unpleasant today on act. of the wind & dust. We worked all day on Gwynn’s lime house. We are all well.

 

Sunday, May 19

Weather pleasant. We had no Church at our Church today on act. of our Minister being away. I went to the Presbyterian in the morning and the Methodist in the evening.

We commenced to get Milk of Mr. Selbey. It commenced to rain this afternoon. I commenced a job for McGlinn on B. St. We finished at Jacob Williams. We are all well except the baby she is not so well.

 

Tuesday, May 21

It rained very hard last night & most all day today. I got another job this afternoon to do for Ross & Cockrill some little China houses and one Ware House. Evening I went to the Rev. S. J. Kings lecture at the Presbyterian Church.

 

Wednesday, May 22

Weather has been more pleasant today. We sat fire to our 2nd kiln tonight. 6 holes I had about 20000 brick put in it out the first kiln we burnt. We started a little house on C St for Smith. We are all well.

Rained all day. I will lose about 3 days work on the yard. I am getting along very well considering all things. My ox team does fully as well as I expected. I have had to hire some of my halling on act. of being so busy.

Weather very pleasant today. I think the rain is over for this season. I worked all day on Smith’s job on C. St. We are all very well. We got a cook at the house today for $30 per Mo.

Weather pleasant. We came near toping out Mr. Smith’s job today. Rafe Eadelen came to board with us today. Evening I went to the Pavillion to hear Senitor Southern(?) he done very well.

Weather pleasant. We started Sabbith school today in our Church. We made a very good beginning. I had 5 boys in my class & the promise of 2 more next Sabbith. We have a very good lott of Books to begin with. We are all well.

Weather pleasant. I finished the Brickwork at Smith’s on C St. and done a little job at the Gass Co. in the afternoon. The free Bridge was opened today for trubville(?) and got ready to have a Ball on it tonight. We are all well.

Weather pleasant. I did not do anything today. I am weighting for the kiln to get cool. We are about through burning it. Evening I took the 2nd degree in the Masons. I liked it very well.

Weather pleasant but part of the time it has been very windy. I got a job to do today for Ross & Cockrill at $12.50 per thousand. I got fooled out of a job on the corner of C & 7th St. & halled the sand. We are all well.

Weather very windy all day. I worked in the morning building a chimney. We opened the new kiln. It is a very good burn. The clay is turning out to be very good better than I ever expected. I began to Hall brick at a new building Ross & Cockrill

 

Friday, May 31

Weather very warm today. I started Ross & Cockrill’s ware house. I got $12.50 per thousand. Pat McCarty went to work at noon for me. I am getting along very well in my business. We are all well.

Weather very unpleasant today quite cool & windy in the morning. We worked all day. I had very good luck collecting money but had to pay it all out again but I was very glad to have it to pay out.

Weather very unpleasant cold & windy. We worked all day at the graveyard. Evening I went to the Lodge of Odd F. Paul Rovost & Ham Willard was Initiated. We are all very well.

Weather continues very cool & windy. We built a chimney for Collard Williams today. Evening I went to a firemen’s meeting. Our company is making prepperations to go to San Francisco this month. I would like to go with them but I dont think I can.

 

Thursday, June 6

Weather continues cool & windy. We started a house for Mr. Cockrill on his lott cross the slough. It is 24X36 one story high above the seller. I only get $12 and weight about 11 Months  for my pay very cheap indeed.

 

Friday, June 7

Weather continues about the same. We worked all day at the same place. Evening I went to a Church business meeting. We have made a start in our Church to build a chapple. We have engaged a Lott.

 

Saturday, June 8

We had quite a shower today. We worked at the same place. I got a new Teamister today. The Trustees paid for our Lott today $1100.00. It is on the corner of E.& 8th St. I collected about $130 today. Paid it out for wood on the yard.

Weather quite pleasant. At Church & Sabbath School. We are getting along finely with our school. We number about forty teachers and all.

Weather quite cool nights & mornings. We worked all day at Mr. Cockrill’s. I am very busy now I have all the work that I can do. Evening went down town. We are all very well.

Weather quite unpleasant cold & windy. We worked all day at Mr. Cockrill’s. I have two Masons beside Dorsey working for me. I am laying Cockrill’s brick for $12 per thousand. We are all very well.

Weather continues very disagreeable. The slough is still high so we have to go around by the Bridge. I started a job today down by the Feather River steamboat landing for Frank Malott at $12.50 per.

Weather pleasant. We worked all day at the same place. We are all w very well. We are still very busy.

 

Friday, June 14

Weather continues about the same. We got Malott’s job up to the square. Our Company Eureka is going to start to San Francisco tomorrow morning. They want me to go with them but I cannot. I am so busy. We sat fire to a kiln Eve.

Quite warm part of the day. We finished Malott’s house then we went back to top out Mr. Cockrill’s House. The Eureka Company went off this morning. They looked very fine.

Weather quite warm. At Church & Sabbath School all day. We are making prepperations to build a new chapple. We are getting finely well with our Church.

Weather pleasant. We finished Cockrill’s House then begin to top out  the new Lime House. Evening Williams, Barnes & I met at Williams Mill to make arraingements about building our chapple.

Weather pleasant. We are still at the new Lime House. I let Pat McC go on D St. at 9 at the job that Dick Wimple & I are doing together. Evening I went to the Lodge. We are all well.
