Friday, January 1
Weather very pleasant. We laid the corner stone of the Masonic Hall today. The Masonic order was out and we spent the day very pleasantly. We had a Dinner in the afternoon at the U. S. Hotel & a Ball and supper at night. I was at the Din.
Saturday, January 2
Weather not so pleasant today and has the appearance of rain. I did not do anything today except making morter at the Hall. The stone sills are not here yet for the two fronts. I have some jobing to do while that is getting ready. Family all well.
Sunday, January 3
Weather pleasant. The Rev. Mr. Ely(?) (the orator of the day at the layoing of the corner stone at the Masonic Hall ) preached for us in the morning. We had a very good congregation. Family all well.
Monday, January 4
Weather cloudy and damp. I commenced to get some work ready at the graveyard today. I have some six or eight Lots to wall in there. Family all well.
Tuesday, January 5
Weather continues damp part of the day and nights are quite cool and frosty. We worked all day at the graveyard. I do not feal very stout yet. I do not do very much. Family all well. Evening I went to the Lodge.
Wednesday, January 6
Weather continues about the same. We finished at the graveyard today. Jack Haun was berried today. He died quite sudden. I am quite busy at present. Evening we went to prayer meeting. We are all well.
Thursday, January 7
Weather quite pleasant. I commenced to set the Stone Sills at the Hall today. I am getting along very well with the Hall not very fast but as fast as they want me. We are all well.
Friday, January 8
Weather quite warm part of today. We worked all day on the Hall. I have not rented two story House on 5th St. yet. It has been vacant since the middle of last month. I will have to come down with the rent.
Saturday, January 9
Weather very disagreeable today foggy & damp. I worked untill noon but had to quit in the afternoon on account of the chills. The rest of the Family are all well. We could not go to the sing this eve.
Sunday, January 10
Weather pleasant part of today. Sallie & I went to Church in the morning but not in the evening. I was not very well. Our congregation was quite large this morning.
Monday, January 11
Weather cloudy & damp. The men had to stop work about 3 O’clock. I am not able to work yet but want to as soon as I can. I feal very well today. Sallie and the children all [--] well.
Tuesday, January 12
Weather pleasant today. We worked all day on the Hall today. I feal very well when I do not work hard. We have had a good deal of cloudy weather but not much rain this fall. The farmers are very much in want of rain.
Wednesday, January 13
Weather cloudy and wet in the afternoon. We worked on the Hall in the forenoon. I rented my House yesterday to Mr. Maguire the Druggist for 30 Dollars per month. We are all well today.
Thursday, January 14
Weather pleasant enough to work in the forenoon but it rained most all the afternoon. Rain is very much needed now to soften the ground so Ranchers can plough.
Friday, January 15
Weather pleasant. We worked all day on the Hall. We are all well.
Saturday, January 16
Weather continues good. We are all at work on the Hall. The winter has been very good for my business but not for the Ranchers. Eve we went to the sing.
Sunday, January 17
Weather continues quite pleasant. We went to Church in the morning but not in the evening Ella stayed to Sunday School today.
Monday, January 18
Weather pleasant. We worked all day on the Hall. Evening I went to the Stock Holders meeting of the Odd Fellows Hall. Family all well.
Tuesday, January 19
Weather pleasant. We are still at work on the Hall. I have finished setting the stone sills on the first story. Family all well.
Wednesday, January 20
Weather continues pleasant. All at work on the Hall. There is very little doing except what I have to do at present. Family all well.
Thursday, January 21
Weather pleasant. Part of the day is quite warm. We had to stop at noon today on account of some soft brick. I pumpt out the cistern on C St this afternoon.
Friday, January 22
Weather continues pleasant. We had it all fixed up about soft brick so we will go to work in the morning. I was fixing my cistern today.
Saturday, January 23
Weather pleasant. Pat & I worked all day on the Hall. Dorsey was helping Harry Carrill to cement the cistern. Evening Sallie & I went to the consert given at the Episcopal Church at the Dedication of the new Organ.
Sunday, January 24
Weather pleasant. Sallie & I took Ella and Charlie to Church with us in the morning but I had to go out with Charlie before Mr. Reese commenced to preach. Family all well.
Monday, January 25
Weather pleasant. We worked all day on the Hall. I am so I can work now. We are all well.
Tuesday, January 26
Weather pleasant. We are still at work on the Hall. Evening I went to a meeting of the trustees of the Odd F. Hall association. We are all well.

Weather pleasant. We are still at work on the Hall. Evening Sallie & I went to the prayer meeting. Family all well.

Weather pleasant except a little windy. We worked all day on the Hall. Evening Sallie & I spent at Mr. Barnes. Family all well.

Weather cloudy and cold and it commenced to rain about noon so we did not work in the afternoon. Family all well.

Weather a little cloudy but no rain. We did not work today but I was busy collecting &co. Evening Sallie & I went to the sing. Family all well.

Weather cloudy and rainey. Sallie & I went to Church & Sabbath School in the morning. Family all well.

Weather pleasant. We worked part of the day on the Hall. We have all the walls up now except the front on 3rd St for the first story. We will have to wait now untill we get the balance of the Stone.

Weather pleasant. I am not doing very much now. We are all well.
Wednesday, February 3
Weather continues pleasant. We are still waiting for the Stone for the front Doorway of the Masonic Hall. I have not been very well for a day or so.
Thursday, February 4
Weather pleasant. I still feal unwell. We are still wateing on the Stone. I have some work to do on the Brickyard and that I want to do while I am wateing for the Stone.
Friday, February 5
Weather pleasant. Warren Smith Dorsey & I worked all day on the yard moveing the shantes. I still feal unwell. The balance of the Family are all well.
Saturday, February 6
Weather pleasant. I worked all day on the yard. I Rec. the second payment on the Masonic Hall. Family all well.
Sunday, February 7
Weather very pleasant. Sallie & I were at Church in the morning & at Sabbath Sch. Charlie & Ella was at School today for the first time for Charlie. I did not feal very well today.
Monday, February 8
Weather continues very pleasant. The stones for the Hall has not come as yet so we cannot do anything there. I am at work at the Brickyard now I have time.
Tuesday, February 9
Weather very pleasant. We are still working at the yard. I am building a fence & Barn & shantes for the men. I still feal unwell. The rest of the Family are well.

Weather continues pleasant. We are still working at the yard. Evening Sallie & I went to the prayer meeting. Family all well.

Weather pleasant. The wind did not blow quite so hard today. Smith & I worked at the yard today building a fence. Family all well.

Weather very pleasant today. We worked untill noon today at the yard. The stone for the Hall is not ready yet. Family all well.

Weather continues pleasant. We were at church & Sabbath School in the morning but not at Church in the evening. We are all very well except I am not so well.

Weather continues very pleasant but we are in want of rain very much. The Miners as well as the Ranchers want it. I made up my mind to go to San Francisco in the morning.
Tuesday, February 16
Weather a little cloudy. I started for the Bay this morning arrived at San F. about 10 at night. I had a very pleasant trip down except I felt a little unwell part of the way down something like the chills.
Wednesday, February 17
Weather pleasant in San Francisco. I find everything very lively here & the place growing very rapedly with the finest Houses. I met with a few of my old acquaintances but some have gone away.
Thursday, February 18
Weather continues very pleasant. I went on the railroad to Santa Clara today but I was quite unwell there with feavor. I saw Bro. McClay there at the Office of the R. station. Returned in the evening.
Friday, February 19
Weather pleasant. I started for Home today. I felt very well today. I saw the men taking up the Iron plating of the [--] from the Ship that sank today before I left. Will arrived at Sacramento about 5 tomorrow morning.
Saturday, February 20
Weather cloudy & damp. It rained about noon today. I came up from Sac. By way of the R. R. arrived at Home about 1 and was quite sick all the afternoon with the chills & feavor. I found all the Family all well & Andy down from Reese River
Sunday, February 21
Weather no rain today & it has the appearance of clearing off. We are still very much in want of more rain on account of the crops. Sallie & I were at Church in the morning.
Monday, February 22
Weather very pleasant. The balance of the stone for the Hall is not ready yet so we are still wateing on them. I fealt better today the rest of the Family are all well. We Rec. letters from Home today one from Jacob and one from sister Maggie.
Tuesday, February 23
Weather pleasant. I am not doing very much now except a little jobing for myself. The stones are expected soon for the Hall and then we can go ahead with the building.
Wednesday, February 24
Weather pleasant. I am still wateing on the stone for the Hall. I forgot to say last week about Andy Slicer comeing to see us. He is down from Rheese River to spend the balance of the winter with us.
Thursday, February 25
Weather pleasant. We are still waiting on the stone for the Doorway of the Hall. I sold 1500 brick today to Hudson & Co. I am getting $10 per M for brick now. Evening I went to the Old folks consert given at the Presbyterian Church. Sallie sang.
Friday, February 26
Weather quite windy today. The Old folks repeated there consert this Eve. Sallie sang with them again. Everything went off well at both conserts. They made about $650.00 out of it to by an Organ for the Church.
Saturday, February 27
Weather still continues quite windy. I have done nothing today but try and collect & pay Bills the latter I had to do pretty well at. The Stone has not come yet. Family all well.

Weather pleasant. We were at Church in the morning & Sabbath School. We had no Church in the evening Mr. Rheese is not very well.
Monday, February 29
Weather continues dry & warm. The farmers are complaining very much on the account of the dry weather. We are still wateing on the balance of the stone for the Hall. We are all well.
Tuesday, March 1
Weather still continues dry and warm. I worked a while today at the yard fixing up the stalls in the stable. The Old folks went up to Oroville this eve to give a concert tonight. We did not go Sallie could not leave well.
Wednesday, March 2
Weather pleasant. I commenced to get some Brick & Morter out to the graveyard to do some work. The stones are not ready yet for the Hall. Family all well.
Thursday, March 3
Weather still keeps dry and warm. We worked all day at the graveyard. We are all well.
Friday, March 4
Weather continues pleasant. We finished at the Cemetery today. The stone have not come yet. We are all well.
Saturday, March 5
Weather continues about the same. Grain & flour is going up every day on account of the dry weather. We are all well. Eve we went to the sing.
Sunday, March 6
Weather pleasant. Sallie did not get to church at all today. I went morning & evening & at S. S. We are all well. Our girl left us today. She wanted to go to San Francisco to live.
Monday, March 7
Weather dry and no appearance of rain. Flour is still on the rise. I have one or two small jobs to do this week. The stone has not come yet. We are all well.
Tuesday, March 8
Weather quite warm. We commenced a job at the old Market on E. St. We are all very well.
Wednesday, March 9
Weather continues about the same. We worked all day. We finished the job on E St and commenced a job opposite my House on D St. an addition to a stable.
Thursday, March 10
Weather quite warm. Dorsey & I worked all day on the stable. Flour & grain is still going up. It is about as much again as it was 2 or 3 weeks ago. Family all well.
Friday, March 11
Weather warm & dry & no appearance of rain. Grain & flour is still going up. Rain is very much wanted on account of the crops. The stones have not come yet for the Hall. Family all well.

Weather pleasant. I am still waiting on the stone for the Hall. I have some small jobs to do but not enough to amount to much. Family all well.

Weather continues about the same. Sallie did not get to Church today.
Monday, March 14
Weather continues pleasant. I am still waiting on the stone for the Hall. Family all well. Eve I went to a Hall meeting of the Odd Fellows Hall association.
Tuesday, March 15
Weather continues pleasant. While I am waiting for the stones on the Hall I spend part of my time fixing up the yard so I will be ready to commence to make Brick just as soon as the weather will permitt.

Weather has the appearance of rain this week. We are very much in want of it. Family all well.

Weather continues sometimes it looks like rain & then it clears off. Flour is going up most every day. Family all well.

Weather about the same. The stone for the Hall has come but they have come two or three weeks work on then yet to have them ready for use. Family all well.

Weather very pleasant. Sallie did not get out all day. I went in the morning. We had no Church in the evening on account of our Pastor being unwell. Charlie is not very well today.

Weather pleasant but a little windy. I worked part of the day on the yard building an addition to the shantes. Charlie is still unwell. We think he is going to have the measels.

Weather pleasant except a little windy. Smith & I worked all day on the yard. Charlie is still unwell.

Weather continues about the same. We are still at the yard at work. Charlie is still unwell.

Weather pleasant. Warren Smith & I worked most all day at the yard. In the evening we got ready at the Hall to raise the two stones at the great Doorway leading to the Hall.

Weather pleasant. This morning we raised the stones at the doorway of the Hall. The children are all unwell except Maggie.

Weather pleasant. We started on the 3rd St. front of the Masonic Hall today. Family all about the same.

Weather good. We did not get to go to Church today. Ella & Charlie are still sick. We think they will have the Measels.

Weather wet. I stayed at home today with Ella the measels are out on her & she is quite sick. Charlie is getting better.

Weather cloudy & rainy part of the time. We went to work again today. Ella is getting along very well. Charlie is quite well. I felt quite unwell this evening with my Back.

Weather pleasant. I commenced on the yard today. The men got the yard ready. I filled one of the Pitts. My Back was very bad when I quit work. Cloudy this evening. Children all getting along very well.

Weather wet so we could not commence to mold as we expected. I was quite sick today with a chill. The children are all getting along very well.

Weather pleasant. We worked all day. I do not feal very strong yet. The children are getting along very well.

Weather cloudy & wet. We had no Church at our church today. our Pastor is at the Bay on some business.

Weather pleasant but it has the appearance of more rain. We have not got to work on the yard yet on account of the weather but we will start in just as soon as the weather will permitt. Family all well.

Weather continues about the same. We worked part of today at the Hall. Evening I went to the Hall (Masonic).
Wednesday, April 6
Weather wet no work today. I went out in the Country to look at a Horse. He pleased me & I bought him. He belonged to J. Rickards. I am to give $250 for him. We are all very well.

Weather pleasant. I got ready today to hoist the large stone that covers the doorway at the Hall. We are all well.
Friday, April 8
Weather a little cloudy & it rained a little in the afternoon. We got up the large stone today at the Hall without any axidance. We also commenced to mold today. family all well.

Weather a little warm today. We got the front wall of the Hall all up to the square of the first story today and everything ready to commence on the second story Monday. Family all well.

Weather pleasant. At church morning & evening. Sallie did not go to church today she did not feal very well.

Weather about the same. We only worked ½ day today on account of the tenders. Sallie is getting better.

Weather warm. No work today on the Hall. I cannot get enough tenders together so we can work. I will go to Sac. In the morning to get some. We are all well.

Weather warm. I started to Sacramento this morning after tenders. Arrived there at noon saw Wm. Smith & others and they helped me to get some.

Weather pleasant in Sacramento. I got what tenders I wanted this morning but we cannot get off before Monday morning. I spent part of today in walking about the city.

Weather pleasant in Sacramento yet. Went to the 4th St. Baptist church morning & evening.

Weather continues very pleasant. I started for Home this morning by the Boat with my 3 tenders. Arrived about 5 in the evening found Family all well.

Weather quite warm. We started on the Hall again this morning with 4 bricklayers & 3 tenders. Got along very well. Family all well.
Wednesday, April 20
Weather pleasant. We worked all day on the Hall. My Sacramento men got along very well. Family all well.

Weather warm. We are getting along very well now with the Hall. The men on the Brickyard are getting along well. Family all well.

Weather quite warm. We got another good days work done on the Hall. One of my yard men quit this eve on account of the setter. We are all well.

Weather quite pleasant today. I sat another tender to work today on the Hall. Everything is going along very well. On account of not being able to collect. I had to borrow from Bank.

Weather pleasant we had a little shower last night. I turned out with the Odd Fellows today. They had an aniversary selebration. We could not work today very well any how so We all Kept Holiday.

Weather pleasant. We all worked today on the Hall. We are getting along very well now on the Hall and also the Brickyard.

Weather continues about the same. We are still on the second story of the Hall. Sallie is not very well for the last day or so.

Weather pleasant some think it a little too warm but I think it pleasant. I am very well now. Sallie is a little better today. The children are all quite well.

Weather continues about the same. We did not succeed in getting the second story quite on but can finish it in about ½ day. Family all well.

Weather pleasant. At Church & Sabbath School morning & evening. Sallie did not get out today. Family all well.

Weather quite warm. I finished up the second story of the Masonic Hall today about 4 in the afternoon. Evening went to a meeting of the Eureka Company. Family all well.
Tuesday, May 3
Weather pleasant. The M. E. Church, Presbyterian & Baptist Sabbath Schools had a pic-nic near Oroville on the R. Road today. I was along. We had a very nice time. Sallie & the children could not go. We sat fire to a kiln.
Wednesday, May 4
Weather pleasant. I am not doing anything now. I am waiting on the Carpenters at the Hall. The men at the yard are all getting along very well. Family all well.
Thursday, May 5
Weather cloudy and windy makes it hard at the kiln. We are all well.
Friday, May 6
Weather cloudy it rained quite hard last night. My Horse strayed away last night but I found him in a stable downtown. The kiln is getting along very well. Family all well.

Weather pleasant except a little windy. I have been getting one or two little jobs ready for next week. Family all well.

Weather pleasant. I was at Church morning & evening & also at Sabbath School at the usual time. Sallie did not get out today. Family all well.

Weather cloudy & wet. The Boys finished at the kiln about 9 this morning. It has 7 arches 50 bricks long making about 150000 in it. We got a good burn. We are all well.
Tuesday, May 10
Weather still wet. We could not do anything today either on the yard or in town. We are all well.
Wednesday, May 11
Weather pleasant in the morning but it rained in the evening so we had to stop work. We are doing a little job for A. P. Barnes. We are all well.
Thursday, May 12
Weather cloudy in the morning but it did not Rain. We finished at Barnes and started to build a front fence for Mr. E. Hamilton. We are all well.
Friday, May 13
Weather pleasant. We finished Hamilton’s fence. I got the third payment yesterday on the Masonic Hall $1393.50. We are all well.
Saturday, May 14
Weather cloudy part of the day & some rain. The men on the yard had to stop work on that account. I do not feal very well this evening.

Weather warm. At Church & Sabbath School morning & evening. Sallie did not get to Church at all. Family all well.
Monday, May 16
Weather pleasant in the morning but cloudy in the afternoon. It rained very hard and destroyed a good many Bricks on the yard & kiln. I went up to Oroville today to see about some lime.
Tuesday, May 17
It was today that it rained so Hard instead of yesterday I lost a good many brick on the yard. It was considered by everybody to be the hardest rain we have had for along time

Weather pleasant but quite muddy. I wrote to Sacramento for lime today. The Lime here is too much [--]. Family all well.

Weather pleasant. Not doing much in town now waiting on the Hall. Family all well.

Weather quite warm. I am not doing anything in town on account of the want of lime. The men are at work on the yard. Family well.

Weather continues warm. I layed brick most all day today at Tombs. I am building an addition to his stable. It will take about 26,000 Brick. Eve I went to the Masonic Lodge

Weather continues about the same. We worked all day at the stable. Family all well.

Weather continues very warm. We are still at the stable. We are all well. Lime came for the Hall today.

Weather warm. I finished at the stable today. The next thing will be to go to work at the Masonic Hall. We are all well.

Weather continues warm. I commenced at the Hall today to Rig up a hoisting apparatis. I have 3 large Buckets and intend to Hoist by Horse power. I get [--] & Horse for 4.50 per day.
Tuesday, May 31
Weather more pleasant. We commenced to Hoist today and got along very satisfactorily. I think it will be quite a saveing to me in labor. Evening I went to the Masonic Lodge.
Wednesday, June 1
Weather pleasant. We Hoisted brick & morter up on the Hall all day. We have not got to work laying Brick yet. I am helping to Hoist it works very well so far.

Weather pleasant. We are still hoisting at the Hall. Everything works very well. We are all well.

Weather not so pleasant today part of it was quite warm. We are still hoisting at the Hall but stopped at noon untill we get to work.

Weather pleasant. All at work on the Hall. My hoisting arraingement works like a charme so far it is a grate saveing to me in labour. Evening I went to the Masonic Lodge. Family all well.

Weather pleasant. At church & S. S. as usual. We had no Church in the evening on account of our Pastor being unwell. Sallie did not get out today. We are all well.

Weather pleasant. We finished the walls of the Masonic Hall up to the top of the 3rd story windows a little after noon today then had to stop for a while. We are all well.
Tuesday, June 21
Weather pleasant. I worked all day at the Hall getting my schaffolding ready to put on the last schaffold on the 3rd story. I have the men off jobing. Eve I went to the Lodge.
Wednesday, June 22
Weather pleasant. I dont expect to lay any Brick on the Hall this week. Sallie & Maggie is not very well.
Thursday, June 23

Weather quite warm part of today. I am having morter made up to finish the Brick work of the Hall. I am figuring up for a German Church. I put my bid in on the 22 & was the lowest bidder but it is more than they expected & they want to make it smaller.

Weather continues warm. One of my tenders (Pat) got quite a fall from the run plank with the Whealbarrow today but escaped with slight brooses. Family all very well.

Weather pleasant. We had one of the largest turnouts today that I ever saw in Marysville on a 4th & everything went off very well. I went out with our Engine Company. Andy Slicer was out with us. We had a very good time. Sallie was out with the children.

Weather pleasant. I am waiting for the Carpenters on the Hall. Now they are putting there roof timbers on. I have some of the men jobing. I signed a contract last week to build a Church on the cor of E & 7th Streets [--]. Halled sand today.

Weather continues about the same. I am still waiting on the carpenters. I was about the Hall most all day. I made an Iron bucket to Hoist up brick & morter. Two of the others broke being wood they fell to pieces. Sallie had a chill today. Ella was not very well today.

Weather pleasant. I had Morter made up at the Church today. I have Farrell jobing at the Empire block. I was Idle most all day. Family all very well today.

Weather pleasant. I worked all day at the Curb at the Hall. I have one or 2 men off jobing. I quit molding yesterday. I think that I will have enough Brick made for this season. All very well.

Weather continues about the same. I am still at the curb. The men at the yard are closeing up the last kiln of 20 holes about 400,000 Brick. I hurt my finger very bad today. Family well.

Weather very pleasant. I finished my curb at the Masonic Hall today. I commenced my schaffolding on the fire walls. I want to get ready by Tuesday to lay Brick. I got a payment on the G. M. E. Church today.

Weather warm. I was at Church & S. S. in the morning but not at Church in the Evening. Family well. The Boys sat fire to the kiln this eve it has 20 holes about 400,000 Brick.

Weather quite warm. I was fixing my schaffolding to top out the Hall with. We are all well at present.

Weather continues about the same. I finished my schaffolding today but will have to wait on the Carpenters for a little while. I do not feal very well this Evening.

Weather continues warm. I commenced to hoist morter & Brick & Pat & I went to work in the afternoon. Farrell has left me & joined the Army. I felt very unwell this evening.

Weather continues very warm. I was quite sick today with the Bilious Feaver so the men could not work to advantage & I thought it best to let them lay off untill I got better.

Weather quite warm. We worked on the Hall part of today got all we can do untill Swain gets his cornice on. I dont feal very strong yet. I got the 4th payment on the Hall today.

Weather continues warm. Pat McCarty & I started to lay Brick on the G. M. E. Church today. My finger pained me very bad today. It is the one I got a splinter in a few days ago & cannot get it out.

Weather continues warm. Pat McCarty was not expected to go to work this morning as expected to. He was quite unwell last night & feals very bad today. I got Billings in his place for a few days.

Weather continues warm. Billings & I got the foundation up for the joist. Pat McCarty is very bad much worse then yesterday. I am afraid he will not get over it.

Weather continues warm. Poor Pat McCarty died today. He died 20 minutes past 5 this afternoon. I was with him part of the day. He died with the infermation on the bowels. I am very sorry to have to part with him. He has been with me for a long time.
