They were loosely filed alphabetically and some had consent notes written by parents, guardians, etc. attached to them. A few consent notes were written on the back of old envelopes and one on a piece of brown paper bag. The following records concern the family of Jesus Miranda and his Native American wife Petra, who lived in the Kern River Valley. My notes are in brackets. In the Matter of the Application of Fernando Miranda For a License to Marry Frances Robles State of California }ss County of Kern The undersigned, being first sworn, doth depose and say; That he knows the above named Francis Robles, that she is of the age of 22 years, was born in California and a resident of Weldon, Kern County State of California, and being further sworn, deposes and says; That his name is Fernando Miranda, that he is of the age of 24 years, was born in California and a resident of Weldon, Kern County, State of California, and knows of no legal objections to their marriage.
