Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, November 5, at 2 o'clock at the Georgetown Methodist Church for Mrs. Elizabeth Irish, 85, who passed away at the Placerville Hospital Thursday morning after suffering a fall. She broke an arm and suffered severe shock to the frail system. About a year ago she fell and broke both arms at the wrist from which she had never fully recovered. Mrs. Irish was the daughter of pioneer parents, John and Elizabeth Buchler, who came from New Orleans, via Panama, arriving at Hangtown in 1854. They later came to Georgetown and lived the remainder of their lives here. Mrs. Irish was married to Chas. Irish in 1899 and they made their home on the Irish ranch south of town on the Placerville Road. After the death of Mr. Irish in November 1913, Mrs. Irish moved to town to live with her niece, Mrs. Minnie Anderson, who lives in the Buchler home where Mrs. Irish was born and lived until her marriage. Mrs. Irish recently received her 50 year membership pin from the Rebekah Lodge she had joined in 1897. She was also a charter member of El Dorado Parlor No. 186, Native Daughters of the Golden West. She was the first vice president of the Order instituted May 16, 1910 and was an active officer until a year ago. She is survived by three step-sons, F. Henry Irish of Georgetown; and Earl and Rolon Irish of the bay district; a sister, Mrs. Minnie Hunt of Sacramento, two brothers, George and Frank Buchler, also of Sacramento and several nieces and nephews. Other nieces here beside Mrs. Anderson are Mrs. Elizabeth Murdock and Mrs Ethel Breedlove and nephews, George Buchler and Allen Hughes. Those from a distance were Mrs. Ruby Weber of Oakland, Mr. And Mrs. Lester Hughes and family, Salem, Oregon, and Mr. And Mrs. F. H. Jefford of Sacramento. The services at the church were conducted by the Rev. L. T. Nutting and the officers of the Rebekah Lodge No. 64. Graveside ritual service was held by the Native Daughters, assisted by Rev. Nutting with interment in the family plot. (Elizabeth Irish was the 2nd wife of Charles Freeman Irish (my great grandfather). He married Elizabeth after his 1st wife Anna Arvidson Irish was killed in a horse and buggy accident on the way back to their home in Georgetown. She left three young sons, one of whom was my grandfather.)
