Native of Gilroy Born in Gilroy, California, March 1, 1856, Mr. Arper came to Mojave in 1912 from Oakland where he had been engaged in the oil business. He became justice of the peace the same year, a position which he held with the exception of one term until 1938, commuting to Mojave from his ranch 5 miles east of town with horse and buggy in early years. Mr. Arper later became engaged in the real estate business and as an insurance broker, promoting through his private and public offices the general interests of the community. The funeral chapel which had charge of the remains occupies the former AIper residence. He was preceded in death five years ago by his wife, Emma Arper, who lies in the Mojave Cemetery. Surviving him are his brother, Clarence Arper, 7, of Santa Monica, and two sisters, Mrs. Emma Stafford, 50, of Bakersfield, and Mrs. Anne Quinn, 68, of Los Altos, California. The Reverend W. J. Oldfield officiated at the church services, while Masonic rites were conducted at the grave in the local cemetery.
