Source Unknown; 12 Dec 1957 Ray Atwood Passes Away Ray Ewing Atwood, 51, well known painter of the Mojave Desert area, passed away in Kern ,General Hospital Sunday morning, Dec. 8, 1957. He had a host of friends in this area, having lived here off and on since 1931. Most recently, Ray operated the Mojave Building and Supply Co. on I Street, across the tracks. He was born in 1906 in Dexter, Mo. Ray was a member of the Elks Lodge 1625 in Lancaster and later transferred to the new Mojave Lodge 2059. He was also a member of the Painters Union, Palmdale Local. Survivors include a son, Joseph Atwood, of Mojave; his mother, Susan Tate Atwood of Williamson, Ill.; three, brothers, Everett of Portland" Oregon; Pink, of Peoria, Ill.; and Courtland at Camp Irwin, Calif. Also surviving is a sister, Ruth Evans, of Ridgecrest, Calif., and a niece, Mrs. Dean Ferren of Mojave. Services will be held Friday, December 13, 11 a.m., in the Community Church at Mojave with Rev. James of Foursquare Church of Ridgecrest, officiating. O'Donnell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements and interments will be in Johannesburg. No flowers are requested by relatives, instead a contribution to the Cancer Fund may be made to O.K. Parker, chairman.
