A funeral service was held on Monday, Dec. 20, at the Wood Family Funeral 
Service chapel for Margaret Mendez Ayon, 52, who passed away on Dec. 14 in 
Bakersfield.

Margaret was born on March 10, 1952 in Hanford to Ysidro and Jennie Mendez. 
She grew up in Tehachapi, attending local schools. Due to health reasons, 
Margaret moved to Bakersfield about 10 years ago. 

For many years in Tehachapi, as well as Bakersfield, she worked as a 
caregiver to the elderly through the state of California. She was a very 
devoted member of her church and enjoyed listening to Christian music. 
She loved animals, especially her cats, but her greatest joy was being able 
to spend time with her family.

Margaret is survived by her husband, Rafael Palafox of Bakersfield; daughter, 
Nellie Ayon-Palafox and husband Juan Carlos of Bakersfield; grandchildren, 
Monica, Julissa and Juan Carlos, Jr.; sisters, Nellie Hernandez and husband 
Angel of Lucerne Valley and Mary Lou Mendez and husband Gonzalo Pacheco of 
Bakersfield; mother, Jennie Mendez of Bakersfield; nieces, Maria and Angela; 
and nephews, Juan and Jesus.

Pastor Hector Davila officiated at the service. Interment followed at Tehachapi 
Public Cemetery, Westside. Wood Family Funeral Service handled the arrangements.
