His father Art served as constable for many years and was well known for witching wells. Stewart graduated from Tehachapi High School in 1958, then moved to Belmont to attend college. Stewart had happy memories of wandering around the hills of Tehachapi. Throughout his life he retained that love for the mountains and deserts. Stewart worked in the window manufacturing industry for 44 years. Starting as a part-time janitor, he advanced to vice president of International Window Company. In 2001, he started his own successful company named Home Window Company in Northern California. Stewart fought cancer for 14 long months. He never once complained, felt sorry for himself or gave up. He certainly was a fine example for all who knew and loved him. His kindness, caring and loving ways will never be forgotten. Stew is survived by his wife of 44 years, Donna; son Stewart Scott Bender and daughter Tamra Kathleen Bender, both of Pleasanton; brother Arman Bender of Oakley; and sister Marlene Black of Redwood City. He is also survived by 14 nieces and nephews and 16 great-nieces and great-nephews. His first grandchild will be born in May. He was preceded in death by his parents, Art Bender and Edna Harrelson, his grandparents, sister-in-law Olive Bender and niece Cissy Bender. Cards may be sent to the Bender family at 1647 Hopyard Road, Pleasanton, CA 94566.
