All persons donating to this site retain the rights to their own work. Source Unknown; Date Unknown Mart M. Boone passed away on August 28, 1998 at home surrounded by his family. Mart was born in Bakersfield on January 10, 1922 to Ella and George Boone. Mart lived in the Bakersfield and Wasco area while growing up. He and his family moved to California City in 1959 where he began the Boone Construction Company. Mart and his company played a major role in the early beginnings of California City including the construction of the city's Central Park and lake. Mart was also the first Honorary May or of California City. He returned to live in Bakersfield in 1978 where his two sons joined the company. Mart retired in 1989 and his sons have continued to operate the business. Mart is an Army veteran and served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre during World War II. Mart was an active member of the Fellowship for Christ Church and belonged to the Operator Engineering Union Local #12 for over 50 years. He enjoyed driving his restored 1914 Model T Ford and was a member of the Kern County Model T club. Mart is survived by Gladys, his loving wife of 59 years, sons Jim and Jack Boone of Bakersfield, daughters Kathy Boone of Bakersfield and Irish Palmer of Mojave. He has left behind nine grandchildren, Nikki, Debbie, Missy, Mart, Amanda, Mark, Carrie, Erica, and Philip and four great grandchildren, Danny, Chelsey, Audrina and Katelin. Mart's extended family also includes daughter-in-law Claire Boone, Pam, Jason, John and Billy and many, many friends. Mart's family would like to give a very special thank you to the Kern Hospice organization for their support and kindness during this very difficult time. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to the Kern Hospice in Mart's memory. Mart was a loving, caring and generous man to all the people in his life. We will remember him always and will continue to hold his love in our hearts forever, for what the heart has once owned and had, it shall never lose. We love you daddy and we will miss you until we can see you again. Visitation was held on Monday, August 31 and services were held on Tuesday, September 1 at the Greenlawn Southwest Mortuary.
