Source Unknown; 14 Feb 1952 Weekly Chapter OF Accidents The Mojave area “chalked up” a staggering number of traffic accidents the past week. Clarence Bradburn, 25, 5303 W. 125th St., Hawthorne died January 31, 12:10 a. m. in Mojave hospital from injuries received in an auto accident 5˝ miles east of Rosamond on Rosamond Rd. The car, driven by Eldon L. Richards, 2251 Katherine St. in Pomona, containing 3 other passengers in addition to Bradburn, hit a rut in the road, throwing it out of control and careening up a bank, bouncing, signs showed, 4 times and taking flight for 30 feet before coming to rest. All of the occupants were thrown from the car. Bradburn was found 84 ft away; All but Ediie who was unhurt, were taken to Mojave hospital by the O’Donnell ambulance. Winfred A. Wagner at this writing is still in the hospital with a pelvic and skull fracture, the other passenger, Herbert Floyd, and Richards received emergency treatment and were released the following morning. All of the men were employed by Northrop Aircraft Company at Edwards. Sgt. Dave F. Brown 6510 Air Police Squadron, Edwards Air Force Base, residing at Base Housing, here, struck a Newhall Gasoline truck and trailer, driven by James H. Shaffer at the railroad crossing on Highway 6, south of town late Thursday night. Brown, attempting to pass the truck, cut in too soon and struck it just behind the cab causing the two vehicles to sideswipe. Brown and his passenger were taken to Mojave hospital for first aid treatment. Bill Smith 39, Box 220, Wilsona Rdt. Lancaster, died early Monday morning in Kern General hospital as a result of an accident Saturday morning at l:30 a.m. just south of the cattle guard on Highway 466, north of here. The car driven by Aldridge R Pierce, 32, 222A Wilsona Rt. Lancaster, left the road, ran along the shoulder, climbing a bank parallel with the road and tumbled back onto the highway. Both men were brought to Mojave by the O'Donnell ambulance for emergency treatment, Pierce being released and Smith being removed by the ambulance to Kern General hospital, 4:00 A.M Pierce was cited for driving while intoxicated and pleaded guilty before Judge J. G. Sherrill Monday, where he was fined $100 or 50 days in jail and suspension of drivers license for 90 days. He took the jail sentence. Both men were employed at Edwards Air Force Base as janitors.
