Source Unknown; 23 Feb 1956 Billy Joe's Death Saddens Many Friends The entire community of Mojave was saddened by the death of Billy Jo Callahan, 29, of 122 L Street, who had been employed as a truck driver for General Petroleum Co. Billy Jo died in a Mojave Hospital at 8:20 a.m. Thursday, February 16, 1956, from what was apparently an overdose of sleeping tablets, according to findings of Coroner Stan Newman. Final reason however, will not be known until a pathologist makes known his findings from the ordered autopsy. Callahan had been a resident of Mojave since 1936 and was born in Oklahoma, November 28, 1926, He attended Mojave Elementary School and Antelope Valley High School. He is survived by his widow, Jeanine, daughter, Kathy, 4, son, Jimmy. 2, mother Mrs. Ethel Young, 'and a brother, Bobby all of Mojave. Funeral services were held Monday, February 20 at 2 p.m. in the Community Congregational Church attended by an overflowing crowd of his friends and neighbors, officiated over by the Rev. Dr. Torrance Phelps, minister of the church. Interment followed in the Mojave cemetery.
