All persons donating to this site retain the rights to their own work. Source Unknown; 27 Jun 1940 Well Known Miner Passes On Mr. W. S, Callahan, 42, well known miner of Mojave died at the Phil J. Vogel hospital on Monday at 2:30 A. M. of complications resulting from an accident which occurred while he was working in the Golden Queen mine several months ago. Mr. Callahan was a native or Huntington Arkansas and came to Mojave four years ago. He was a World War veteran. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ethel Callahan and three children, James, Billy Joe and Bobby Callahan, also a brother and sister in the East. The funeral, in charge of the Mojave Funeral Chapel was held yesterday afternoon from the Community Church with the Rev. Oldfield officiating. Interrment took place in the Mojave Cemetery with the American Legion conducting the services. He was a charter member of Mojave Local 272, Mine and Mill Workers whose members attended the rites in a body. Many beautiful floral offerings testified to the esteem in which he was held. He was buried with full military honors, a salute of three guns and taps were sounded oer the body of the departed comrade.
