MADDUX Mabel Lena Maddux Carver was born on August 26, 1917 at home on the family ranch in Glennville, California. She was the first child of Marvin and Grace Maddux. She graduated from Linns Valley School, Kern Union High School and Bakersfield College. During World War II she chose to stay home and worked the ranch with her father while her brother was away. She married Russ Carver in 1946 and they had three daughters and a son, Rachel, Ramona, Lois and Nathan. Mabel and Russ settled on the Maddux ranch in 1950 and the ranch and Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church became the center of their lives and priorities. Mabel became the sewing leader for the 4-H Club. She lovingly cared for many neighborhood children, encouraged younger women and reached out to families in need. She made lovely quilts, taught others how to make them and was accomplished at many home crafts. Mabel led a life of quiet strength and abiding faith with a great love of the land and all of God's creation. She knew all of the birds and wildflowers and is remembered for her wonderful garden. All who had the privilege of being touched by Mabel's grace, beauty and kindness are truly blessed. As Mabel had wished, she passed from this life in the home that she built and loved on her cattle ranch on June 4, 2004. Mabel was preceded in death by her husband, Russ and her brother, Howard. She is survived by her children and their spouses, 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday June 12, 2004 in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Glennville with Rev. Harold Knox and Rev. Charles Shawver officiating. A reception and gathering of remembrance will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the Mt. Carmel Community Church in Glennville.
