All persons donating to this site retain the rights to their own work. Bakersfield Californian 11/15/2006 CARVER, ROBERT W. Robert William Carver May 15, 1924 - Nov 14 2006. Robert, better known as Bill, was born in Kansas City, Kansas in 1924. Bill and his mother moved to the Los Angeles area when he was 3 years old. In 1933 Bill and his parents, Gerald and Mildred, moved to Porterville. In 1936 the family moved to Glennville where his dad worked for the Jeff Carver Ranch. The family moved to Smokey Valley, Nevada in 1941 where Bill attended High School at round Mountain Nevada. Bill returned to Glennville in 1942 after his mother died. He lived with the Olds family and drove the High School bus from Glennville to Bakersfield. He was drafted into the service from Tonopah, Nevada and was in the 11th Airborne, 152 division. He was a glider trooper. He went from New Guinea to Japan, landing in Japan before the Peace was signed. His group raised the first American flag over Japan. He was discharged in 1946 and returned to driving bus. He married his wife, Mona Grisedale in 1948 and they had two sons. Bill joined the Kern County Fire Department in 1950 and retired as Captain in 1976. After his retirement he ranched in the Granite Station area. He was a member of the Elberon Christian Church in woody. He is survived by his wife of 58 years Mona; sons Gerald of Granite Station and Bruce Carver (Dawn) of Kernville; and five grandchildren, Holly Aranda (Pete), Hanna Sheppard (Chris) all of Granite Station, Jake (Crystal), Megan and Shannon of Kernville; 5 great-grandsons J.P., Ryan, Garrett and Tristan Aranda and Ian Sheppard. At his request there will be no services. Donations may be made to Elberon Christian Church, P.O. Box 51 Woody CA 93287. Mission Family Mortuary Note: Bill's father' name was Wooldridge. Mildred was called Pansy. Bill's ashes are scattered on his and Mona's ranch in Granite Station area.
