Source Unknown; Date Unknown April 10, 1935 – May 29, 2004 Sandra “Sandy” Chrysler passed away May 29 after a courageous and prolonged battle with cancer. She was born April 10, 1935 in Minneapolis, Minn. Sandy was an innovative fashion designer, beginning her career in the late 50s designing knitwear. She was one of the first in California to create high fashion clothes at a moderate price for a newly emerging young sector of the market and also the first to design dresses using sweat materials — previously only used in active wear. One of her much-copied designs is currently on display (copied again) at the New York Metropolitan Museum exhibition “Men in Skirts.” After a long hiatus from the fashion industry she returned to open “Sandy Chrysler Collections,” designing chic clothes sold to stores across America. A resident of Tehachapi, her ranch was her refuge and in recent years she developed a new career growing lilacs: each year sponsoring a Mother’s Day festival on the ranch featuring blooming lilacs and the artwork of local artisans. Always full of new ideas, Sandy’s enthusiasm was inspiring to everyone. She will be missed by her many friends. Sandra is survived by her daughters, Lisa Karlstein (Robert Francey) and Danielle Chrysler (Todd Robbins), sister Judith Cohen (Al Christianson), brother Larry Chrysler, adoring grandson Jeremy Day and caring friend Pepi Kelman. Per Sandy’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. A memorial gathering will be held at a later date.
