Source Unknown; 14 Dec 1944 FIVE PERSONS KILLED AT BORON MUROC, Calif., Dec. 7, Five persons were killed Wednesday night near Boron, California, in the mid-air collision of a medium bomber and a fighter type aircraft, Colonel Gerald Hoyle, commanding Officer of Muroc Army Airfield, announced today. Killed in the crash were Captain Benjamin Van Doran, Jr., of 27 Walbrooke Road, Scarsdale, New York; First Lieutenant Henry M. Phillips, bomber pilot, son of Mrs. Josephine Rawl of 118 Titt Street, Greenville, North Carolina; Technical Sergeant William L. Eckert of 3139 Montecit Street, Fresno, California; P. E. Claypool, Jr., civilian pilot, of 1427 Barrington Way, Glendale, California; and Robert C. Eickstaedt, civilian, of 301 Haven Avenue, Arcadia, California.
