All persons donating to this site retain the rights to their own work. Source Unknown; 25 Oct 1951 Death Stalks Highway Six Sam Collins, 50, Chief USN stationed at Pt. Mugu, was killed late Sunday night seven miles north of Mojave when he ran into Harry Young, 3428 Getty St. Bakersfield, and was thrown out onto the highway. Two cars subsequently drove over the body. The second car, driven by Tony Paravano, 1007 Pacific Ave., Manhattan Beach, stopped and the driver waited until officers arrived onthe scene. The driver of the pickup was knocked out by the impact, and a passenger steered the truck unti1 it could be stopped about 500 feet down the highway. Collins is survived by his wife, Clementine, and a daughter of China Lake, Calif., and a son, Robert, who is a member of the USMC stationed in Colorado. Services will be held at the O'Donnell Funeral Chapel today with Chaplain Zoller, USN, China Lake officiating. The remains will then be shipped to Rosecrans National Cemetery for military graveside services on Friday afternoon.
