Danel have received the sad news in a telegram from Secretary of the Army last Saturday night to the effect that their son, Richard L. Danel had been killed in action with the enemy in Korea on July 31st, 1952. Dick, as he was affectionately called by all who knew him, was born in Galena. Kansas on December 28 1928 and attended school there before coming to the Mojave Desert, where he attended school in Mojave and also in Ridgecrest. He entered the military service, U. S. Army, Infantry division in November of 1950 and rose to Corporal in a short time. He had worked for the L.A. Dept. of Water & Power at Bishop and for the Southern Pacific Company at Mojave. He is survived by his parents and nine brothers and sisters. His many friends will be sorry to hear this sad news and the sympathy of the entire town goes out to his grief stricken parents. Source Unknown; 16 Oct 1952 Services Held for Corporal Danel Funeral services for Corp. Richard Lewis Danel of the U. S. Army, who was killed in action at Iimjin River, Koyandae, in Korea on July 31 of this year were held at the Community Congregational Church in Mojave on Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock. The services were military in character, the officiant being Chaplain John A. Burgess of Edwards Air Force Base, Edwards, California, while the pall- bearers, firing squad and bugler were corpsmen of the same place. The services attended by the American Legion, Post No. 358, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3711, were in charge of the O'Donnell Funeral Home. and Interment was in the Mojave Cemetary. Corp. Danel, who was born on December 10, 1928 at Galena, Kansas, is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond H. Danel of Edwards, Calif., Loren E. and Derrel of Fair Oakes, Calif., Raymond L. of Mojave, Verl Norman and Kenneth of Edwards, Calif., and the following sisters: Mrs. Iva McKeehan, Edwards, Mrs. Mavis Smith, Mojave, and Miss Sue Danel of Edwards. His full name and number was Cpl. Richard L. Danel, No. 56072230, Co "K", 15 Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division. US Army.
