Donovan of California City, CA passed away on March 14, 2000 at AV Hospital in Lancaster, CA at the age of 78. Mr. Donovan was born on March 25, 1921 in Chicago, IL. He served in the Marine Corps during World War II in the Pacific, doing ten major Corps landings. Decorations include the Legion of Merit and three Purple Hearts. After the war, he spent six years as a police officer in Chicago while working his way through college. He obtained his Masters Degree in Business Administration and Accounting. He worked for the IRS for 12 years, retiring in 1987. Mr. Donovan was a member of the VFW serving as Post 9375 Quartermaster and Commander and 10th District Commander. He was the founder and first Commander of the Marine Corps League, Carol Sharp Detachment. He was also a member of the American Legion, Marine Corps League and a Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus and attended religious services at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Mr. Donovan is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Joan B. Donovan of California City. Memorial service was held on March 17, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church by Father John Gracey in California City. Internment will take place at St. Mary's Catholic Church and Cemetery on March 25, in Roseville, IA. Arrangements by Stickel Mortuary.
