The coroner's verdict as rendered in the passing of "Hank" Dowdy, beloved foreman of the S. P. roundhouse on Thursday of last week. But who shall dare to censure him for his act? What troubles he had connected with his job, a great many railroad men know, especially on this division of the Southern Pacific. He leaves besides his wife and an adopted child, two sisters, Elsie of Salinas and Effie of Bakersfield. For 25 years this faithful employe gave his services and arrived in Mojave to take charge of the roundhouse force about a year ago. In trying to perform the impossible, "Hank" became temporarily deranged and took the easy way out. The esteem in which he was held by his fellow employes is expressed in the following obituary written for him by one of his employe friends. OBITUARY (Written by a friend of the S. P.) Death has again visited our little city and taken from us a man whom we all have learned to love and respect but God knows best. To him this old world was a place of unrest but in vision he could see a place of perfect rest. It is a debt we all must pay. 'We hope to meet him in a better world some day. Let's pray God to bless us that we may meet on high, where sorrow never comes, where there are no more goodbyes. To Mrs. Dowdy and loved ones, God has gained a precious jewel. But God's own hand was in it all. In His words, it has pleased Him. He was ready for the call. Now let us cease our weeping and bid him goodbye. Though we cannot meet on earth again, we can meet above the sky. To you and I in life beforetime for us to go we, perhaps, that Mr. Dowdy seen. When his call came to go. God bless the loved ones who are left behind. Left with the hope that one day we shall meet again in yonder world, ne'er to say goodbye. Published: 09 Jul 1942 CADI Dowdy, Elzie dob 28 Mar 1887 Mo.
