Edwards of Lancaster was struck and killed, by an auto while he was attempting to catch a ride just south of Rosamond Tuesday afternoon. Edwin Cline, probation Officer at CVI, Lancaster had stopped to pick up the boy, when he saw a car approaching rapidly from the rear. Mr.Cline started to pull over to the right, and the approaching car did the same, striking the boy as it passed. Both cars were headed south. The driver of the second car was Joseph Bechler, 76, of Long Beach. The boy was taken to Mojave Hospital by the O'Donnell ambulance where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The Edwards family is well known in Mojave, having resided in the Naval Housing until July of this year when they moved to the Campbell Ranch west of Lancaster. The boy had been employed at the local Safeway store and was also a member of the Young People's Fellowship of the Com. Congregational Church. Services under the direction of the O'Donnell Funeral Home are pending.
