Source Unknown; Date Unknown July 17, 1929 – March 23, 2005 John Thomas Ehret was born in Trenton, N.J. on July 17, 1929, where he spent his early years. He joined the United States Marine Corps in March of 1950. During his four years in the 1st Marine Division, John saw action in Korea, including the landings at Inchon and action at the Chosun Reservoir. Following his honorable discharge in 1954, John met and married Virginia Howard of Bakersfield. Together they owned and operated the Bakersfield Batting Range at the main entrance of Sam Lynn Ball Park for 37 years. His wife Virginia preceded him in death in 1997. He retired in 2000 to his home in Stallion Springs to enjoy his favorite pastime, golf. John is survived by his present wife, Ruth McLean Ehret of Stallion Springs; grandson John Justin Ehret of Bakersfield; brother, Francis Ehrer and sister, Florence Seek, both of Allentown, Pa. His family held a private memorial service to celebrate John's life at the Chester Avenue Community Church in Bakersfield on Tuesday, March 29.
