Source Unknown; Date Unknown February 3, 1917 — January 16, 2005 Funeral services were held on Wednesday, January 19 at the Landmark Missionary Baptist Church in Mojave for California City resident, Orville Emory, 87, who passed away on January 16, 2005 in a Bakersfield hospital. Orville was born on February 3, 1917 in Greenup County, Kentucky to Daniel Boone and Virginia Emory. He married Alka Van Hoose in Ohio on April 20, 1942. They moved to the Mojave area in 1962. Orville loved working as a carpenter in the construction industry, especially working with his sons. He thoroughly enjoyed traveling, making numerous trips to Kentucky and Ohio. Orville also enjoyed gardening and playing cards. He was truly devoted to his family and church. He also had a passion for biscuits and gravy and strawberry milkshakes. Orville is survived by his children, Gary Emory, Roger Emory, and Mike Emory, all of California City, Janet Garrett and Lois Hunter, both of Tehachapi, Edward Emory, of Mojave, Pat Kulrich, of Tehachapi, and John Emory, of Lone Pine, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Alka, in 1997. Pastor Elder F Walter Petree III officiated at the service. Interment followed at the Mojave Cemetery. Wood Family Funeral Service handled the arrangements.
