Harkins Passes Away in Los Angeles After a Short Illness After impressive funeral rites held last Saturday afternoon in Forest Lawn at Glendale, the remains of Mrs. J. E. Harkins, beloved wife of Jim Harkins, popular Southern Pacific engineer of Mojave was laid to rest in the Mausoleum there. Mrs. Harkins, formerly in motion pictures in the silent days, was a very gracious lady and, had endeared herself to her many Mojave acquaintances during her eight years residence here, and many will miss her smiling face which used to greet them each morning at the post office. She was married to J. E. for 25 years of happily wedded bliss, whom she met at her home in the South where they were married, from where they took up residence in San Francisco later coming to reside in Bakersfield and finally coming to Mojave to live where they have resided ever since at the property on the corner of Inyo and N streets. Ever of a smiling disposition she successfully hid illness until it became necessary for her to go to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harry Spears of Hollywood and was in the hospital there for but one week when she passed on. She is survived by, her husband, her daughter, and two brothers who reside in Los Angeles. Two poems written by Edgar Guest, aptly describing this lovely woman were read at the funeral ceremony, which were attended by her family. It will be hard for her husband to carry on alone and our sympathy goes to him but he can rest assured that she has gone to a better place where God will give him strength to carry on.
