Mary Jane Hayes, 88, a resident of Yorktown Health Care Center, passed away March 21, 1999 
at Ball-Memorial Hospital, Muncie, IN. Born in Muncie, the daughter of William and Sarah 
"Murphy" Craig. She attended school at Lincoln and Wilson Schools in Muncie. She was a 
homemaker and life-time resident of Muncie. She was a member of the Warner Gear Sympathy Club 
and a former member of Local 287 Auxiliary.
She is survived by one son, William W. (wife, Connie) Hayes, Muncie IN; four daughters, 
Virginia L. (husband, Joe) Baker of Pratt, WV, Joyce A. (husband, William) Burgess of 
Yorktown, Martha L. Oxley of Muncie, IN, Gloria "Dean" (husband, Roger) Robertson of 
California City, CA; brother, Albert (wife, Mabel) Craig of Muncie, sisters-in-law, Ruth Craig, 
Dorothy Craig, Imogene Craig, Lois Craig, all of Muncie, IN; 13 grandchildren, several great-
grandchildren and one great great-great grandchild and several nieces and
nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband of 33 years, Virgil L. Hayes who died in 
1962, and two grandchildren, Terry Chastain and Brian Robertson and four brothers.
Funeral services were held on March 24, 1999, with burial in the Gardens of Memory Cemetery in 
Muncie, IN.
