All persons donating to this site retain the rights to their own work. Source Unknown; Date Unknown J. Robert (Bob) Kearsing was born June 21, 1922 in Spring Valley, New York. He moved to California City after he retired from the U.S. Postal Service, serving as letter carrier. He was a resident of Cal City for nearly 20 years. He passed away on January 5, 1999 at the Antelope Valley Hospital in Lancaster, Calif, after suffering a massive heart attack at his home in the Desert Jade Apartments. Bob was 76 years old at the time of his death. When World War broke out, he joined the Army Air Corp. He served in World War II for two years as a Glider Pilot. He was one of a small number of Glider Pilots that the AAC had. He graduated from Victorville Glider Training on February 17, 1943 with the rank of Flight Officer. He was assigned to the 44th Troop Carrier Squadron - 316th Troop Carrier Group, but was transferred to the 70th TC Sq, 436 TC Group and flew in the invasion of France, as well as other engagements of the war. He was stationed in England for a period of time, where he met and married his wife of some 25 years, Jean. They returned to New York in 1944 and began their family. Bob worked many jobs before becoming a Postal Mail Carrier. He raised his family and later retired from the postal service. Upon retiring, he moved to the California desert to be near his sons living here. Bob was an active member of his community. He was a Life Member of the V.F.W. Post #9375 of Cal. City. He served as Quartermaster for the post for a number of years. He also served in their marching Honor Guard for Tortoise Days, and for the Opening of Little League season. He saw and helped his post through many new changes during his time with them. At one time, he was a member of the American Legion, and The World War II Glider Pilots Association. Boh was serving as the Treasure of the Desert Jade at the time of his passing. Many people will remember Bob for riding through Cal City his 4-wheel bike. The local paper carried a picture of him and his famous bike. Bob's hobby when he wasn't engaged in a project was painting and reading. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Donald. Donald died in WW II. Bob is survived by his 4 sons and 1 daughter; son John and daughter-in-law Anne Kearsing of Mojave, son Michael Kearsing of Calif. City, son Peter and daughter-in- law Phyllis Kearsing of Pomona, New York, son Marc and daughter-in-law Kimberly Kearsing, of Wappingers Falls, New York, daughter Lisa Jean Kearsing of Wurtsboro, New York; 6 grandchildren and 4 Great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Joyce of New York. A memorial service was conducted by V.F.W.#9375 of Cal City, Sunday, January 10. Arrangements for cremation were made by Stickle Mortuary of Mojave. Instead of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in Bob's name.
