Tehachapi News; 2 Jun 2004 Aug. 29, 1910 May 28, 2004 Funeral services will be held the week of June 1 for Sylvia Harriet Kennedy, 93, who passed away in Tehachapi on May 28. Sylvia was born on Aug. 29, 1910 in Chicago, Ill. to Frank and Lillian Carpenter. At the age of 3, she moved to Oregon to live on a 320-acre homestead. Unable to make a living on the homestead, Sylvia's family moved to Glendale in the 1930s. In 1945, Sylvia met her husband to be, Ellsworth Kennedy. They married and a lifetime of missionary work followed. Their ministry began with the Papago and Apache Indians of Arizona, then the Maoris of New Zealand, and finally the Cocopah Indians of Arizona and New Mexico. Sylvia served faithfully for more than 55 years in the ministry. After moving to Tehachapi to be near her son in 1996, she and her husband spent time ministering with the Peruvian shepherds, resulting in one of them accepting Christ and being baptized last year. Sylvia is survived by her husband, Ellsworth; son, Eldwin Kennedy and wife Jan; grandson, Eric Kennedy; granddaughter, Tara Dahl and husband Joey; two great- grandchildren, Hanah and Clayton Dahl; as well as many friends. Funeral services will be held at Wood Family Funeral Service Chapel -- contact the mortuary for times. Interment will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in North NOTE: Photo At: http://www.calarchives4u.com/photos/kern/
