"Charlie" Krone passed away unexpectedly on April 21 in Tehachapi at the age of 85. He was a loving and devoted husband to Kay, his wife of 63 years, and a wonderful father to his daughter Katie. He was like a father to his grandson, Scott, who will miss his love and guidance; and his granddaughter Kristi, who will miss his sweet and caring nature. Charlie was married in 1942 and went into the 8th Army Air Corps in 1943. He was stationed in Thurleigh, England with the 306th Bomb Group as a ball-turret gunner on a B-17. He flew 35 missions during World War II. In 1954, Charlie and his family moved from Shawnee, Kan. to Southern California. He was employed by Singer/Librascope in Glendale and continued working there until his retirement in 1985. Upon retiring, Charlie and Kay settled in Stallion Springs for good golf and good friends. Until recently, Charlie still flew his beloved 1949 Beechcraft Bonanza and was a member of the Octogenarian Pilots Association. A celebration of his life will be held May 15 at 4 p.m. at the Tehachapi Airport. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of choice.
