Many Accidents Over Weekend
The always grim report on traffic accidents reaches a high in grimness this week with 
a toll of five dead and six injured in a three-day episode of highway death and injury.
Kenneth John McMurtie, 23, Sun Valley, died instantly on Saturday at 5:25 a.m. 
after having rolled his Ford Pickup 200 feet on Highway 6. His passenger, Jas. Russell 
Annis, 22, U. S. N. San Diego, died 10 hours later at Mojave Hospital. 
McMurtie, to all indications, fell asleep at the wheel and awoke to find himself well 
off the highway on a curve 1½ miles North of Rosamond. He made a sudden turn of 
the wheel and sent the truck careening across to the opposite side of the road. Trying 
to recover again, he pulled back too quickly on the wheel which sent the truck into a 
spin rolling it 200 feet and severing the top of the cab.
MacMurtie, killed outright, was removed to the O'Donnell Funeral Home and Annis 
was taken to Mojave Hospital where he died at 3 p.m. The truck was found by a cook 
employed here who reported he accident to Highway Patrolmen here.
MacMurtie's body was removed to North Hollywood for burial. Annis will be buried 
at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Glendale at 2 p.m. today with O'Donnell Funeral 
Home conducting the services. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Russell M. 
Annis of Burbank.

Transcriber's note: When attempting to verify spelling of the last name I 
discovered the name is recorded in the CADI as MACMURTRIE.
