Source Unknown; Date Unknown Robert McGowan, renowned valley coach and educator, ended a valiant fight with cancer on May 18, 2000. Mr. McGowan was born and raised in Blairsville, PA. He is survived by his wife Carolyn, son Jeffery; brothers, Dave, Columbus, Frederick and Freddie; sisters Georgia Mae and Lucille; stepchildren, Laura Hacker and Michael Anderson and five step-grandchildren. : Robert dedicated his life to education and athletics. He was an all-state running back in high school, graduated from Highlands University, Las Vegas, New Mexico and had a Masters Degree from Azusa Pacific and Chapman Colleges. He coached at Palmdale, Desert and Boron High Schools in numerous sports, amassing an amazing win record. His most recent feat was having the continuation school at North Edwards, which he helped found and taught at for 17 years renamed last year as Robert McGowan High School. A ceremony celebrating his life was held on May 22, 2000 at the Richard B. Lynch Education Center in North Edwards, CA. In Lieu of flowers, a Robert McGowan Scholarship Fund has been established.
