Source Unknown; 6 Dec 1945 Well Beloved Pioneer Passes On One of our oldest and best loved pioneers has passed away and many were the tear-dimmed eyes when the people heard of his demise John Nestor, for many years a postmaster of Mojave and a resident of this place most of his life, died in a Bakersfield Hotel on Wednesday morning last, having been under the care of a doctor at that place for two weeks previous. Johnny's mother came here in the very early days and is .credited with having operated the first hotel ever to be operated here. His sister, Mrs. A.D. Coffill who passed on some two and a half years ago, was the first white child .born within the confines of Mojave Many are the tales he could and did tell of his experiences here in the early part of his life. A kindly man, well loved, by every person who knew him, Johnny always had a good word for each and a bright and sunny disposition The funeral was held, in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mojave on Tuesday of this week, the Rev. Father Joseph F. Smith officiating, the body having been brought here for the funeral services. Interrment was in the Union Cemetary of Bakersfield. in the family plot, and we can almost see the smile lighting up the face of Mickie Coffill to know that his former pal and partner rests alongside him. As in life, so in death, it was fated that these two should not be long separated. As a well deserved mark of respect, all places of business were closed here during the funeral ceremony.
