Source Unknown; Date Unknown Jan. 9, 1922 – Dec. 5, 2004 On Sunday, Dec. 5, at age 82, Marge Petersen died at her home in Ferndale, Wash. Marge was born in Carlsbad, N.M. on Jan. 9, 1922. She and her brother were raised in the rural areas around Carlsbad and Albuquerque. While growing up, the two of them attended many different one-room schools. The family moved to the Los Angeles area when she was a teenager. There she met and later married John (Jack) Wilson. They lived in Torrance until 1954, then moved to Ferndale when her husband was transferred there by Mobil Oil Company. Together they raised four children on a small farm on the Aldergrove Road. She and her husband later divorced and Marge married Paul Petersen in 1965. Paul and Marge lived at Neptune Beach, where they purchased property and built two homes together. Following Paul's death in 1973, she served as a library technician for the Whatcom County Library in Blaine and at the little Mountain View Branch Library on Lake Terrell Road. In 1984, she moved to Tehachapi to be closer to her brother, son and grandson. It was not long before she became a regular volunteer at the local library, soon to be known as the "Paperback Kid." Her love of books kept her involved with the library until she returned to Ferndale in September this year. Throughout her life she enjoyed doing crafts, gardening, bowling, dancing, reading and helping to raise her grandchildren. Marge is survived by her son John P. Wilson (Glenna Longcrier) of Tehachapi; daughters, Ginny McAlpine and Myrtha Wilson (Terry Oakes) of Ferndale, Wash.; and Midge Anderson (Mike Thibert) of Surrey, B.C.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Paul, grandson James G. Wilson, brother John J. Plowman and son-in-law John McAlpine. "Gram" was known for her sweet heart and ready smile. She was always there to lend a hand and help others. She will be missed by all her family and friends, both in Ferndale and Tehachapi. A private family service was held Thursday, Dec. 9, at Greenacres in Ferndale. The family requests no flowers. Memorials may be sent to a charity of choice.
