MOJAVE - A memorial mass will be said Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Francis Catholic 
Church in Mojave for long-time Mojave area resident Mary A. Pittman, who passed 
away January 9th in Las Vegas.
Mary and her husband Jack, who preceeded her in death, moved to a small ranch near 
Mojave in the mid-1940's, where Jack ran cattle and worked as a firefighter at the 
Mojave Marine Base and Edwards Air Force Base. They were married in Lynwood, 
California July 3, 1930.
The couple purchased a building on Inyo Street in Mojave which Mary operated as a 
beauty shop until the late 1960's when they sold the building, retired, and traveled 
extensively in the U.S., Mexico, and Europe.
Active in community
Mary was active in various community organizations including the Emblem Club, AARP,
and her church, along with working with young and old alike to better their lives. 
She was also active with Jack in the RCA rodeo circuit, serving as a time-keeper 
while Jack provided stock.
Mary was born June 11, 1913, in a small town in Iowa, the youngest in a family of 
four boys and two girls. The family moved to Colorado Springs, where her father 
operated a drug store and was the sole pharmacist.
The family moved to Lynwood where Mary attended school. After completing a cosmetology 
course, she worked in a beauty shop in downtown Los Angeles.
Survivors include Mary V. Barry of Las Vegas, with whom Mary last resided, 
numerous nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
Monsignor Laserian Byrne will officiate at Fridays services.
