Mojave Desert News; 11 Jan 1996 Edith Laverne Prentice, 85 year old California City resident, died on January 5, 1996 in California City, ^ She was born on February 18, 1910, in Brighton, Tennessee. Laverne enjoyed her career as a nurse in Los Angeles County hospi tals and at Olive View Hospital in the San Fernando Valley before her retirement. Vern, as her friends called her, was a member of Victory Baptist Church and enjoyed her retirement home at Desert Jade with her puzzles and needlepoint to keep her busy. Her husband, Aubrey Prentice, whom she married on December 4, 1926, predeceased her. She is mourned by her sister, Margaret Byford, Wilson, Arkansas; her daughters, Mildred Sanders, California City, Doris Mendannall, West Plains, Missouri and Pat Page, Redlands, California; her sons, Buzz Prentice, Highland, California and Jim Prentice, Redlands, Cali fornia. Mc-Ma was a special grandma to her 18 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren and she will be sadly missed by her family who extend a special thank you to Sarah, who was Laverne's Care Giver. Memorial services were held for Laverne on January 10, 1996 at 11 a.m. at the John Germane Funeral Home with interment following at Woodlow Cemetery in Haiti, Missouri.
