Mojave Desert News; 4 Sep 1947 AGED RECLUSE IS FOUND DEAD Harry Purte, 70, a recluse who had spent the past 25 years of his life in the mountains west of Antelope Valley was found dead at his camp on Thursday morning of last week from natural causes. Mr. Tippman, who rides for the Tejon ranch, had been watching Purte for several days, packing in food, etc. He reported to Deputy Lawrence Duntley that the man should be brought out for medical aid. An attempt was made by Duntley, accompanied by Mr. Tippman and Tommy Loomis to bring him out on Thursday, August 21 but the old man refused to come. Mr. Tippman went back on the 27th and found the man in serious condition. Officer Sanders, Deputy Duntley, Mr. Tippman, Tommy Loomis and Dave McKenzie went in from the Antelope Valley side, a distance of 10 miles west of the Antelope General Petroleum Pump Statior which had to be traveled on horseback. When the party arrived they found the old man had died from natural causes and had been dead about six hours. The body was loaded on a horse and packed. out to Castiac Lake where Deputy Sheriff Roberts was waiting with an ambulance from Snyder of Bakersfield, who took the body to the Kern County Coroner's office.
