Source Unknown; Date Unknown March 4, 1919 May 15, 2004 A graveside funeral service was held Friday, May 21 at the Tehachapi Public Cemetery, Eastside for Mary Ellen Putnam, 85, who passed away in Wagoner, Okla. on May 15. Mary was born on March 4, 1919 in Hulbert, Okla. to Clarence and Maude Henderson. She was married to her husband of 51 years, Hayden Putnam, on April 9, 1940 in Checotah, Okla. She and her husband moved to the Arvin area in 1943, where they engaged in farming. After moving to Tehachapi in the late 1940s, they helped establish and physically build the First Assembly of God Church in Tehachapi. Mary was active in the church with the women's ministry. After Hayden's death in 1991, Mary moved to Oklahoma to be near her sisters, but always planned to return to her Tehachapi home for burial. Mary is survived by sisters, Nevorah Baker and husband Claude, Beulah Willhite, Juanita Edwards and husband Jackie, Rosetta Smith and husband Roy and Adda Rosenthall; brother, Jeff Henderson and wife Opal, all of Wagoner, Okla.; special niece, Susan Edgington of Santa Maria; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Reverend Dale Sheley officiated at the service. Wood Family Funeral Service handled the arrangements.
