All persons donating to this site retain the rights to their own work. Source Unknown; Date Unknown Leo R. Quintanar, 63, died Saturday, January 22, 2000, at Kaiser Hospital in Woodland Hills, CA. Born November 30, 1936 in Escondido, he lived in Escondido until 1965 He then moved his family to Simi Valley. As a child, while attending Escondido Elementary, Leo showed his artistic-talent by painting his first mural, which can still be viewed there today. Leo also known by his professional name of Lee Carvel, will be remembered for many things, mostly his famous paintings of President Ronald Reagan John Wayne, Roy Rogers, Elvira and classic comic books. Leo's painting of Ronald Reagan can be viewed at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley. He was a charter member of California Art Society for many years. As a professional hypnotist, magician and natural psychic, he appeared in theatre and on television and radio throughout the world. Leo Quintanar had recently completed a world tour in Tokyo, Japan. Leo is survived by his wife of 30 years, Lee; son Leo Quintanar Jr. of Boulder. CO; daughters Anne Garza of Tennessee, Terri Bowman of Simi Valley, Susan Quintanar of San Francisco; and grandchildren, Scott, Terra, Stephen, Chris and Jeremy; sisters Arlene DeFreitas of Carlsbad, Olivia Handley of Oxnard; parents Leo and Grace; and brother Edward of California City. Reardons Mortuary of Simi Valley handled arrangements.
