Source Unknown; 1 Feb 1951 Aged Recluse Dies Near Rosamond With her body almost devoured by her four dogs the remains, of Nellie Reed, once famous actress, was found last weekend in her home 15 miles southeast of Rosamond by Sergeant Robert Butts of Edwards Air Force Base and Ben Ragen, a service station operator of Rosamond. Accustomed to seeing the elderly lady in town about twice a week where she did her trading, suspicion of something wrong developed when she did not appear for almost a week and the men who were both her friends, decided to investigate. Upon going to the home the men discovered the snarling vicious animals who were on the verge of madness and had to be shot, one by one, from the window before anyone could enter. Her stage name was Nellie Reed and she is said to have been about 67 years old. Death was due to natural causes according to Deputy Coroner Stanley Newman. The case was investigated by Captain Roland Barbeau, Sergeants Glen Roberts and Joe Taylor, and Deputy Al Strasner of the sheriff's office, and Roger Franklin, district attorney's investigator. Coroner Houze, commenting on the death of the woman said there was little to indicate foul play. But he said pathologists will examine her remains in a routine inquiry. The remains were taken to the O'Donnell Funeral Home in Mojave and prepared for burial. NOTE: CADI Reed, Nellie b. 03 Aug 1879 d. 26 Jan 1951
