Mojave Desert News; 25 Jul 1996 Mr. Leo Joseph Peter Roell passed away Sunday, July 14, 1996 in North Edwards, California at the age of 66 years, of natural causes. Mr. Roell was born May 5, 1930 in Indianapolis, Indiana and had lived in North Edwards since 1979. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, and retired in November 1979 after serving for 28 years with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. During his time of service Mr. Roell was stationed in Texas, California, Georgia, Ohio, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Tennessee, Philippine Islands, Vietnam and Thailand. He is survived by his mother, Leona Ann Roell of El Cajon, California; his loving wife of 44 years, Ida Delores Roell; his 11 children, Leona, Stephen, Denise, Marina, Michael, Patrick, Richard, Karen, Peggy, Christopher, Victoria and their spouses; his 23 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; and 5 brothers and 2 sisters. Mr. Roell was a member of The Knights of Columbus and The Holy Name Society. Taking care of his family was his greatest joy. He also loved working with wood and anything to do with working with his hands. Viewing for Mr. Roell was on July 16, 1996 at the Stickel Mortuary in Mojave. Viewing was also held Wednesday, July 17 with Recitation of Rosary at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in California City. Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church followed by the processional to California City Memorial Park for interment with Full Military Honors. Leo was not only a wonderful family man, but an outstanding Christian and a model citizen. During his long time in the service he never lost sight of his goal to be the best father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and most of all, husband. You can not say enough to express the feelings in our hearts toward this man. Leo, Dad, Grandpa, Great Grandpa, our hearts are sad now because we love you and we'll miss you.
