Ruhoff passed away on April 25., 1999 at home surrounded by her family. She was born in Mclntosh, South Dakota on January 10, 1917. Joe and Gertrude were married for 53 years, and farmed in Watauga, SD for 20 years. Then retired to Westport, SD and lived there for 13 years until Joe's death in 1993. She moved to California City in 1993. She was a homemaker, licensed beautician and self- taught artist-sharing her talent with many. One of her greatest gifts was her optimism and her ability to be a compassionate listener. She often visited the Senior Center and was a long time member of St. Michaels Altar Society in Wa'tauga, SD. Gertrude is survived by daughters, Elaine (Ken) Van Dover of Westport, SD, Mary Jo (Bill) Dempsey of California City, CA, Anna Marie (Don) Livermont of Barnard, SD, Judy (Roland) Draeger of Puyallup, WA, Jeanette (Chuck) Kennedy of California City, CA, Kathy Young of Carnation, WA, Joan Middleton of Aberdeen, SD; sons, James (Becky) Ruhoff, Bernard (Kelly) Ruhoff, all of Stanwood, WA and Michael Ruhoff of Everett, WA; 21 grandchildren and 36 greatgrandchildren. Memorial services were conducted by Fr. Bob Gamel on April 27, 1999 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in California City, CA. Internment will take place on May 4, 1999 at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart in Westport, SD with services conducted by Fr. Joe Vogel.
