Source Unknown; 28 Oct 1943 Well Known Mining Man Passes On Death came to Louis Buddee Scheu, aged 58, at Trona Hospital Tuesday evening, October 19, at nine o'clock. Mr. Scheu was well known in the Rand District as well as in Mojave, having been actively engaged in mining work in Randsburg since 1920. A serious illness at New Years, 1942, was followed by three major operations during that year at Santa Fe Hospital in Los Angeles and in March, 1943, he was released from the hospital to conva1esce at his home in Randsburg. For a few months just prior to his death, he had assisted Mrs. Scheu in conducting the government aircraft warning post at Sidney Peak. He was attended in his final illness by his life-long friend, Dr. Wm. Denton of Trona. Service Saturday Funeral services were held on Saturday afternoon at the Community Methodist Church in Randsburg with the Rev. Carrie Elizabeth Ovall in charge. Interrment was in the Rand District cemetery at Johannesberg. Doughty, Calhoun and O'Meara were the undertakers. Busy Career A native of Gunnison, Colorado "Bud" Scheu received his education in the public schools of that state and attended the Colorado School of Mines The son of C. H. Scheu, a mining engineer, he spent his early life in Salt Lake City, Utah, and moved with his parents to Upland, California. He married in 1917. Mr. and Mrs. Scheu chose Rand District for their home in 1920. Pioneer Mill Man His first task was the installation of milling machinery at the Consolidated Mine. Following this assignment he next assisted in the installation of the mill at the California Rand, now known as the Kelly Mine at Red Mountain and continued with that project through its most active period. He was associated with the late Tom Finnerty in the conduct of the King Solomon Mine and lived at Johannesburg during that period. With the advent of the Anglo-American operation of the Yellow Aster Mine at Randsburg he was employed by that firm and continued with them until shortly before the suspension of gold operations. He worked with Larry Putnam, superintendent for Castro-Chrome Associates at San Luis Obispo, California until his illness became acute. During this later period, Mrs. Scheu was Acting Postmaster at Randsburg. Mrs. Scheu survives her husband as does their daughter, Mrs. Warren L Lane of Tyler, Texas.
