Source Unknown; 15 Dec 1938 Youth Killed by Bomb at Muroc Field is Buried at Forest Lawn The tragedy which took the life of Luther Sears Jr at Muroc Bombing Field last Tuesday night might except for a kind Providence have claimed many more lives as a big crowd ot children and adults had gone to the field for souveniers after Army Planes had finished dropping flares and bombs. Buddy as he was always called was a Freshman at A V High. He had gone to the field with the two Hamilton boys, Dallas Adams and his father James Adams. Eugene Hamilton who was closest to Buddy when he picked up the supposedly dead bomb received a slight scratch on one leg when the bomb exploded and Dallas Adams car was considerably damaged. The father, Luther. Sears has been with Pacific Coast Borax Co. for nine years and the family have recently purchased a home in Amargo. A married daughter living in Glendale is the only other surviving child. Their aged grandmother also survives. Funeral services conducted at the Wee Kirk 0' The Heather in Glendale Saturday at eleven o'clock were attended by many from the Borax Mine and pallbearers who were pals of Buddy were Art Fuliner, Leon De Bord, John Clayes, Mirle Buckley and Otis Vary. Interment was in Forest Lawn.
