Skeen was born in Melrose, New Mexico on Feb. 23, 1923. He was a resident of Mojave for 52 years and retired from U.S. Borax in 1985 after working as an Electrical Supervisor for 39 years. As a veteran of World War II, Skeen was a member of the VFW. He also was a member of AARP, 100F, React and Mojave Assembly of God Church. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Wilma Skeen; six sons, Richard Melcher, Darrell Skeen, James Journagan, and David, William and Donald Whiteley; three daughters, Wilma King, Brenda Johnson and Chloe Bussier; five sisters, Dorothy Scales, Ruth Summers, Gay Carol Mullin, Sissy Messarick, and Margaret Ann Baker; and one brother, Buddy Skeen; twelve grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Skeen was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Lennie Mae Skeen; his step-mother, Ida Skeen; and four brothers, Gary, Vernon, Carl (Slim) and Lloyd. A visitation was held at the Stickel Chapel on Oct 12 and religious services were conducted by Rev. Ousens and Rev. Frye of the Mojave Assembly of God Church on Wednesday, Oct. 13.
