Source Unknown; Date Unknown Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church in California City on Thursday, November 13, for Bill Slaight, 88, who passed away on November 10,1997, in a Lancaster hospital. Mr. Slaight was born April 8, 1909, in Mountain Valley, Arkansas. During W.W.II , he served in the Navy as a Seaman Second Class aboard an aircraft carrier. His tour of duty took him to the Asiatic-Pacific Theater, as well as stateside, stationed at Port Hueneme, California. Mr. Slaight was married to Helen Burrow on September 16, 1957 in Hot Springs, Arkansas. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator for U.S. Borax in Boron for 25 years. Mr. Slaight enjoyed drawing and reading. Also, because of his abilities and skills he earned the name of "Mr. Fix-it." In the past, he was affiliated with the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mr. Slaight is survived by his wife, Helen Slaight of California City; daughter, Linda Lunsford of California City; sons, Ernest R. Slaight of Tucson, Arizona and Doc Mothershed of Flagstaff, Arizona; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The Reverend Curtis O'Brien officiated at the service. Internment followed at the California City Memorial Park. The Wood Family Funeral Service of Tehachapi handled the arrangements. Memorial services will be held for Bill "Wm." Slaight of California City on Thursday, November 13, 1997, at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at the East Kern Cemetery
